Floating bed - rediculously cool

How often have you lain in bed at night, cursing the fact that the very piece of furniture upon which you are resting your weary head is somehow despoiled by its crude and ugly legs that rest on the floor?

Ummm, Never

And...As soon as you get on it, it shifts to the side, the fields stop intersecting and you fall on your arse.

*n

Surely that would require a decent electromagnetic field and wouldn't be very good on electricty bills?

Eitherway though it's pretty cool - though as said, I'd rather have it as a coffee table rather than a bed.

Surely sleeping on a bed like that would cause some scary medical problems.

I was thinking that, as the magnetic fields would have to be pretty strong... some people still believe that it's negligible though.

People like to link microwaves and all this kind of thing to cancer etc. I wouldn't have thought a bed like that would help.

it doesnt say anything about the bed using electromagnets, guys. though id hate to try and move the bed if it uses perminent magnets strong enough to levitate 900kg lol

That's my point though - if it has such powerful magnets a) they'd weigh a lot b) it could be a bit dodgy if it shifted too much. Hence why I'd use an electromagnet as you don't need so much metal to create the same magnetic field. Either way it's a cool idea.

OK in a big empty room like the one shown, but in most of our bedrooms it would be carnage with metal objects getting dragged over and clamped onto it.

I've just thought of that - that could be quite interesting! :D

I'm sure powerful magnetic fields messing with the iron on your body will be conduscive to a good night's sleep.

I work with architects everyday and this stupid idea doesn't surprise me at all. They are all fools and instead of concentrating on the job at hand their imaginations are allowed to run riot and engineers, like myself, have to pick up the pieces and make the building actually work. I once had to design a concrete bed that cantilevers from a wall for an architect once; pillock!
