Floods :(

Anyway, these floods aren't anything to do with global warming, it's God's judgment on the immorality and greed of modern society, according to senior Church of England bishops.

haha. that's great. :D

i can only sympathise with you peeps in gloucester. i'm just a few miles away here and you wouldn't even know about it unless you saw it on the news.... :(

edit: i spoke too soon. no water supply here.... strange how it was fine all weekend and yesterday but it's off today.... :p

My mate just told me that on Sunday in Gloucester, some Asian folk bought all the bottled water from the supermarket and started selling it outside the supermarket front door for £5 a bottle.

heard that on the news last night

I find it odd that a country so used to rain can be hit so bad. Heard an interesting story on the news where they were saying that the reason why we build on floodplains is because its not exactly a vote winning issue until your TV is floating out of the door. If we want to avoid flood plains, we limit the space for housing, thus raising property prices. Not something a government would want to do.

Personally I've been unaffected apart from having to drive around cars lying at the side of the road because the lunatic driver didn't understand that going round a sharp bend at speed with it was chucking it down wasn't a good idea! Oh and I had tomorrow off to see the OH but had to move that back as the rail lines are completely out.

Some morons decided it would be funny to let one the numerous bowsers placed around here run completely dry. What a hilarious joke.

What they left the tap on?

Love the BBC's grasp of the situation. Earlier they advised people in the area with no electricity to stay in and watch BBC News 24 for advice, or keep checking the website.

Every well prepared household should have a petrol generator. : )

This post makes sense now, I didn't know what a bowser was until I just saw one on the news. Basically a big water tank in the street with a tap that people can come and help themselves with.

Absolutely disgusting that someone would deliberately vandalise one. Something really must be done about the current levels of anti-social behaviour (aka chavs) in this country.

There was a bit of flooding on the streets, but mainly on Bath road outside weatherspoons (damn.. just missed.. :D ) and a few bits and peices elsewhere.

The impact on cheltenham is mainly the traffic routes in and out - last I heard the A40 to glos is still shut.

Just to mention there was some bad flooding in cheltenham as the river chelt burst its banks again & caused a big old mess.

Apparently in Coney hill (surprise surprise) some of the bowsers have been vandalised

All around me, restaurants and bars are closed and people are without water. Somehow, I still have water... at full pressure. :D

Long may it last.

And? I've watched TV and checked websites without electricity.

Yep, those multi-million pound flood defences on what's left of Cox's meadow really worked!!

Had a bit of a nightmare this weekend. Been feeling rough all weekend so though I would pop home on Friday night to see the doctor in the morning. Of course, the parents almost didn't get out of Cheltenham, got stuck at Swindon, Newbury, Theale and Reading and eventually made it to Egham at midnight. On the way back we were luckily diverted onto the M40 to Oxford and then got the A40 which was fine until about 10 miles out where we had to turn round and head over the hills. Took about 3 hours to get back so added an hour onto the journey which I guess isn't too bad. Folks are left without water now though and all the bowsers are running out around them.

had a quick walk around town today and most a lot of restaurants were closed

Oh and cineworld was closed to :( not going to be able to watch transformers or simpsons now !

Oh well..... think i saw one bowser nearish to me, no one near it though so guess it is empty ? Have no containers to carry the water !

And how did you manage that one?

I thought we'd already established it simply wasn't possible to fry an egg with a bicycle powered hairdryer :D

Sorry - suppose you have to be a Red Dwarf fan to get that one ;)
