Fly on a rope

As far as I'm aware insects don't even feel pain?
Not pain in the mammalian sense, you are quite right. There is a very interesting mini review available on the following journal:

Do insects feel pain? — A biological view
Journal: Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences (CMLS)
Issue: Volume 40, Number 2 / February, 1984
Pages: 164-167

However, this is regardless. I still feel setting flies on fire to be cruel. Then again I cackled when I was putting a lugworm into some liquid nitrogen last month as it came out like an icy rock, so I guess to be critical would be double standards.

"OcUK goes buddhist," film at 11

Its a fly/wasp/insect. Seriously go worry about something important.

Eat halal or kosher meat(though they aren't even guaranteed to be torture free anymore these days :( )

OMG! They arnt guaranteed to be torture free????

Do you know what they do to the animal. They cut its throat and hang it upside down to let the blood drain out.

Thats a Muslim for you. Got to find a barbaric way of doing things.

P.s im not racist or bigoted, im merely commenting on the way they are killed. It makes me laugh that people are crying for a little fly who dosnet have clue what is happening and just sniffs ****, and berating those having a bit of fun, yet they wont say a word about that blatent torture of animals a whole lot more sentinent

Has no-one ever done the bit of bread tied to a balloon with a long length of fishing line and left out for Sea-Gulls on the yard whilst in school? Comedy gold!

You are a hypocrit then.

A wasp, I really don't give a **** about. They serve no purpose.

What you don't see in that video is what happened after the wasp was "cut free" (if at all). What's to say it was completely unharmed and lived a fully and happy life?

You don't. Go eat some lettuce.

As said they do serve a purpose. You don't know for sure if that wasp was completely unharmed.

Yes, I eat lettuce as well.

Maybe I'm weird but when I see charity adverts for humand and animals I feel more sorry for the animals and would rather give my money towards them. Hmm.

i feel the same, but thats because i know that the reason humans are suffering is because of other humans, the reasons the animals are suffering isn't there own species fault

Yes, I eat lettuce as well.

And neither do you that it wasn't.

As said above, go worry about something important.

If a wasp comes near me, I'll swat it with the nearest heaviest object, if a fly is annoying me by flying around me, it will also get swatted.

Sue me, my concious is clean.

agreed.

its a fly ffs.... why we need you tube clips of ferrets getting slapped, when the two are clearly unrelated i dont know.

i think the veggie brigade need to calm down and worry about battery farming not about a fly.

same here. Think I made a thread about it quite a while ago on here.

However, I do not class an insect as an animal really.

spot on.

He who tries to justify that wasps have a purpose in life is wrong :D

They, what was it?, "kill other insects" how the hell does that help?

because the other insects they catch and kill are far more harmful to you/your garden than a wasp is

As far as I understood, all animals are part of a complex biological environment that includes the food chain, and whether that means we directly enjoy benefits from the creatures or not, it doesn't change the fact that we have no *right* to determine whether a creature has a right to exist or not, but mostly exercise restraint in our dealings with them.

I don't like Wasps, I respect their right to exist, but if one comes in my room, I will shoo it out or kill it. I am not destroying the wasp community, but their community interacting with ours in this one small way does not directly appeal to me, so I get rid of it. I damn well don't like it when they feel like stinging me or flying around my head when I hold a pint.

I would offer a little more gravitas for animals with *feeling*, though, considering most insects etc only have brains to control their motor skills.
