Focus CC3

not because a two year old used car which cost twice as much in the first place is better"!

Just have a look at this sentance. I mean seriously just think about it.

There is a very good reason why it costs twice as much in the first place...

Opulence... That comes with the car I'm afraid. Not an 09 number plate.

Lovely cars mate but I'm not spending £20K, if I can get rid of my heap and spend £12K then I'm happy. I'm going back to ford on friday but I'm busy tomorrow and just to show that I'm not as pig headed as some of you may think I shall go to have a drive in an Audi on Thursday. Or put another way, I shall go and have a look and if they're asking silly money for used cars I shall get back in the car and go home.

SO..... you've bought a nearly new car before.....and you can save about £6k by buying a CC3 6 months old, and you wont do that?

What is your actual budget? Sorry I just assumed it would be around 20k (this sounds about right for the Focus brand new).

I've had a look at the autotrader website to see whats on offer, although I'm probably best leaving that to my mate to see what he can find cos he's in the trade and would be more likely to find what I'm after. This seems ok-ish but still looks a bit expensive.

Really it's about half that plus whatever I can get for my Megane. I'm not made of stone when it comes to money though and will pay more for the right car. However this will be by far and away the most I've ever spent on a car so for the money I'm spending I want a car that I WANT and I'm happy to spend that kind of money on. I'm no car expert with crud under his fingernails so having test driven the Focus and liked it the Audi, for example, is going to have to blow me away to make me consider it. Considering the extra cost or the age, which is an issue to me given the money that I'm (not used to) spending.

According to the Ford website the CC3 starts at £20,795. I assume the OP must be getting a very good deal.

I believe I am. The guy at Ford has said more than once that they're very keen to do a deal because they have quotas to meet for the 09 changeover in March. What Car? give a suggested price that CC3 should go for and the price that I've been offered is a couple of hundred quid below that.

They're doing deals on stock that exists in the Ford group but he says it'll be an 09 reg. He also said that I could have this that and the other factory fitted but it would come at a premium. It makes sense to me.

You posted a link to a second hand focus.

I don't get it? Is that a new car??

I posted a link to a second hand focus. I presumed you were starting to see some sense and were at least looking at second hand ones?

Jeff piece of advice mate, (and im going to be as rational as i can be here) your not thinking this through properly

If your going to blow this ammount of money, dont do something you will regret, as the problem with new cars is, is that you loose several thousand from the moment you take delivery. Its then no longer new, but becomes used. If you change your mind, you cant get any of that money back.

Now heres your problem, you've relatively little else to compare the car too, so it seems good. Take yourself to one of the car supermarkets like Car Craft etc.. Dont buy from there as they'll stich you up like a kipper and sell you a lemon. But.... its the only place you can sit in and play with as many cars as you want. You can go sit in an S2000, an BMW 3 Series Convertible, an Audi A4 'vert, an Audi TT, just about any car you want. Sit in the drivers seat, play with the switches and open / close doors. Get yourself a shortlist of at least 3 or 4 cars that you really liked when you sat in them. Find yourself a good example of these at your local dealer and go drive them.

Even if you drive all of these cars and decide you like the focus, fine. But at least you've not made a decision you will regret.

Oh and another thing worth noting, the whole abuse thing with 2nd hand cars ? go watch the episode of traffic cops where they get called to Hull docs. The Honda was written off before it even got to the dealers as he was drink driving and stuck it in a ditch. When you get your new car, it will probably have about 20 miles or something on. None of these miles will have been gentle, they will have been driven by some oik of a workman who doesnt give a damn and enjoys thrashing other peoples new cars. It happens all the time and theres nothing you can do about it. it may even be scratched / kicked or all sorts before it reaches you, but the dealer does a pre collection "prep" that repairs all of that. But you'd be none the wiser..

Seriously, buy a one year, or 18 month old one. You still get 2 years warranty, that lovely new car feeling and all with the bulk of the depreciation taken by some other muppet.
