Focus CC3

Jeff piece of advice mate, (and im going to be as rational as i can be here) your not thinking this through properly

If your going to blow this ammount of money, dont do something you will regret, as the problem with new cars is, is that you loose several thousand from the moment you take delivery. Its then no longer new, but becomes used. If you change your mind, you cant get any of that money back.

Now heres your problem, you've relatively little else to compare the car too, so it seems good. Take yourself to one of the car supermarkets like Car Craft etc.. Dont buy from there as they'll stich you up like a kipper and sell you a lemon. But.... its the only place you can sit in and play with as many cars as you want. You can go sit in an S2000, an BMW 3 Series Convertible, an Audi A4 'vert, an Audi TT, just about any car you want. Sit in the drivers seat, play with the switches and open / close doors. Get yourself a shortlist of at least 3 or 4 cars that you really liked when you sat in them. Find yourself a good example of these at your local dealer and go drive them.

Even if you drive all of these cars and decide you like the focus, fine. But at least you've not made a decision you will regret.

Oh and another thing worth noting, the whole abuse thing with 2nd hand cars ? go watch the episode of traffic cops where they get called to Hull docs. The Honda was written off before it even got to the dealers as he was drink driving and stuck it in a ditch. When you get your new car, it will probably have about 20 miles or something on. None of these miles will have been gentle, they will have been driven by some oik of a workman who doesnt give a damn and enjoys thrashing other peoples new cars. It happens all the time and theres nothing you can do about it. it may even be scratched / kicked or all sorts before it reaches you, but the dealer does a pre collection "prep" that repairs all of that. But you'd be none the wiser..

Seriously, buy a one year, or 18 month old one. You still get 2 years warranty, that lovely new car feeling and all with the bulk of the depreciation taken by some other muppet.
I appreciate that and the rest of the reasoned advice but as has been said and proved by posts in other threads I've been mulling this over for a while now. Despite having no firm idea what I've wanted I've looked at cars, sat in cars and driven cars and yet this one is the one that seems to tick loads of boxes for me.

However, I'm free on Thursday and might well head upto London to the Great Trade centre near Wormwood Scrubs as I've been there before and that had a good selection, well, a very good selection of cars. Anyone know if it's still as big as it used to be?

well you're not going to get a year old A4 for focus money
Precisely. I want to spend Focus money but I don't want an "old" car no matter how good it might be compared to a Focus.

Focus money to me, and probably most others on here is a lot so I don't want to spend it on a car thats done 30,000 miles. I feel that I'm going around in circles trying to make this kind of point clear.

Maybe it would help if you explained to us why you consider a car thats 2 years old to be 'old'?

My BMW at 7 years 'old' and 150,000 miles is more solid and rattles less than a 6 month old Ford, so you really can't use a blanket age/mileage thing on cars you've no experience of. You need to judge each car on its merits.

what you are doing is making yourself sound even more silly :p
you would rather buy a worse car (by a long way) just because its new.

buying new does not garentee a problem free life.

Please don't call me silly, that I am not. I may have different ideas to you about whats hot and whats not but insulting me isn't good and I'm sure it's against the forums rules.

Fox; Me and you have different tastes, wants and needs. Lets just agree to disagree shall we? You may well be right about the state of your car compared to a new Ford but I really don't care. I'd rather take new over tried and tested and thats just me, if I'm wrong then so be it but who knows I might be happy with my purchase as you would be with yours.

The fact that you are suggesting that i am personally attacking you kinda shows how silly you are being.

and yes, you are being silly, verging on stupid. But as they say "theres one born every day".
As long as you can justify buying a worse car just because it is new (only to lose silly money on depreciation) to yourself, that is all that matters.

You don't seem to be able to explain why you think 2 years old is 'old'.

No wonder you've never owned a decent car if this is the way you approach every car purchase.

Tell me then, what do you drive? How much did you pay?

I'll ignore the insult as I've made my point on that score.

I really don't see what I drive as being a part of this.
Just because you ask 330D sport and a ford focus. Both bought with cash.

I recently asked the forum about X5 alternatives for about £12k, not one single person offered up a new vehicle. There is a reason for that, because a new vehicle in that price range would be crap in comparison to the X5.

Just like what you want compared to a decent 3 cab or a4 cab.

My cars have always been to drive, to get me from A to B and sometimes C. They have never been status symbols, I don't go out and lovingly wash them every sunday.

I'm approaching this in a perfectly sane way, I've looked around, I've asked advice from a person I trust, I've driven cars that I like. What more is there??

2 years is old, it's used, it's a used car, it's second hand I don't want second hand I don't want a used car I don't want a car that someone else has thrashed that has bumped over speed bumps that has screeched around corners that has eaten in that has smoked in that has farted in that has done the jiggly in that I'm paying easily the most money I've ever paid for a car doesn't this compute with you? Do I have to say again and again that I'm in the market for a new car?

OK?

Well with all due respect it seems that two of the three cars you've mentioned and maybe the Focus too are better than the car that I'm looking to buy. I guess it's easy to say when you're on the more prestige side of the market whilst even though this seems like a piddling step up from your position is a big leap for me.

It's seems to be the attitude of the majority on this thread that only nutters privately buy new cars. And I'm sure thet British car industry would thank you all for that.

OK?

So why buy a ford cabriolet when a cheaper focus with a roof will do the same transportation job for an awful lot cheaper. The foldy roof offers nothing extra apart from reduced boot space and the ability to 'attempt' to look cool....... O wait ;)

Buy a cheaper focus and put the rest of the money towards something which will actually benefit your life, as you have said that your car gets you from A to B.

Why waste £16k on one then? Why not just keep your current car and go on some holidays or do the house up.

Yes, it is only nutters who buy new cars, people who dont think about the depreciation or generally don't really care about cars. people who are ignorant to the 2nd hand market.

thankfully you will go buy your focus, in a few years be bored of it and sell it on to someone who will bag an absolute bargain, while you will lose loads of cash on it.

Also, screw the car industry, i don't buy cars to keep the economy rolling, i buy what i want given the budget I have, that will be a 2nd hand car because you get a lot more car for the money. That makes sense to anyone who has their eyes on their own finances.

Cos the time has come to replace my car which I've had three years and as has already been posted by myself I've got a better car each time I've replaced it.

Are you satisified with my reasoning of why two years is old?
