Focus ST (ST-2)

Remap it then :P

I would, but at 23 i think my insurance company might laugh at me when i tell them i want to increase its performance 20%+. I will get on the phone to them and ask this week but i think i know what the answer is going to be. The extra in insurance in alone will probably be close to the price of the re-map!

To be honest i'm happy with it as it is and it is already a big step up in power from my old car so i don't think i'm going to push my luck for now. Maybe come Summer/Autumn time i will reconsider.

What i need to do is stop reading about how brilliantly fast they are when mapped :p.

To the Focus ST owners, what MPG do you actually get in town/on a run?

And what's your driving styles with said economy? Do you need to drive it at 60mph on the motorway to get over 30?

My commute to work, which is a 10 mile mix of town driving and 40/50mph stretches gets me about 23MPG. This is with some fairly brisk driving in places...

On the motorway if you keep it at 70 in 6th with a lightfoot then you can get 30, maybe a little more.

I'm trying SO HARD to justify one of these. I can insure it. I can afford to buy it. I can afford to maintain it. The only problem?

I've done 29.5K miles this year. I wouldn't say we've struggled but we really can't afford to go crazy putting fuel in the thing.

Also, I do tend to have quite a heavy foot, so "best case scenario" would NOT apply to me.

I just love these cars. :o

On my 40 mile trip in its a mix of 25% B road and 75% dual carriageway, mine is running the Dsci map currently [which isnt the kindest to mpg] even so i can easily return 23-25 mpg. That's not hanging about either. I imagine mid to high 20's would be achievable even at 80-85 aslong as you dont rag it away from every junction/roundabout.

It is a lovely car but if i was doing 30k a year in it then i would probably think twice about the fuel costs! All depends on your disposable income though i suppose.

I don't think i would have WANTED to afford it if i was doing over 10,000 miles a year in it.

One plus is that an inexpensive re-map will increase the power by a good margin and still leave you with roughly the same MPG. Bluefin even claim it increases your MPG but not quite sure i believe that ;)

I could have course fill it with Momentum 99 and watch the OMG MPGZ INCREASIN'!!!

I mean Thorney tested it, it must be true! :p ;)

To add: I don't think i'll do 30K in 2011. It's probably going to be closer to 20K, maybe even a smidge under. But then the year after - it might well end up at 35K, and that would be an utter killer.

Well you can have fun with it for a year at least! I might have to sell mine after only having it for a year as well as my whole situation might change in 11 months.

I see where MrMoon is coming from, but to be fair fuel has been going up and up at a silly rate for many years, so it's just something i've come to accept really.

I've just run some figures and i'm coming to a base mileage of around 15K in 2011 (before little "excursions" like sometimes we go to Bristol/London/Hull to visit family/friends). To be fair i'm struggling to see where 30K has gone in 2010, but it has.

I do similar mileage to you and as you say "just accept" it. One of the maps on the dreamscience is written to improve fuel economy but, wheres the fun in that :D
