Focus ST

Er what?

What exactly do you have to understand in order to set a temperature you want?

The most fundamental one is that you don't... keep setting a temperature you want. If you do that, it'll annoy you very quickly.

Most people cannot use it properly and do not understand it. So they get in the car, think 'I am cold' and set a warm temperature. Or they get in the car, think 'I am warm' and set a cold temperature.

Then they wonder why the system is so annoying. Because they don't know how it works and cannot be bothered to find out.

What about on a freezing cold morning where initially you want warm air ASAP but after a while it gets roasting hot in the cabin unless you choke the fans/temp a bit?

Why would you not just leave the climate control thermostat setting (that's what it is in very simplistic terms, it's just quite complex in its implementation) set to 21 degrees or whatever, and it warms the cabin without being annoying/intrusive?

In the winter, fan on 1 and temp between 1/2 and hot works just fine for me as well, especially coupled with the heated seats.

No one is going to convince me otherwise, either by trying to convince me I don't know what climate control is about, or how it works - I do, I've tried it several times now gtfo :)

You've demonstrated in this thread that you've no idea :)

As an example, it took me ages until I figured out how it really worked. For a while I hated it as well. I kept adjusting it, it was never right, I just preffered normal AC! You know where you are with that. There are even posts on here from me in 2005 saying that.

Then I bothered to work it out.

What is there to work out about setting a temperature and pressing the auto button?

Howard, My ST has 5, but it just gets left at 3 permanently through the winter months. :)

Yes, mine is the second one you posted.

Fox, you're also missing the point where I've managed to try it in several other cars. I even managed to like it in the Insignia during the winter, whilst I had given up smoking and was driving everywhere with the windows up.

You are lucky it is raining or I would video a drive home with every window open and the climate control having no issues at all :p

Ok, so even if it works as expected in your BMW, and even if I might like the CC in your BMW - I don't, and never will own an E39. However, the ones I have tried in a few E36s, A Fiesta, Insignia, 206, and several other cars; I have always preferred manual controls.

Yes they do? The Mk2 mondeo has the semi automatic thing where you manually adjust the direction etc but the mk3s have proper CC?

Are you saying that there are people out there who try and use climate control like a conventional heater?

You should read up on your Fords, as even the new ones are named EATC/DEATC - (Dual) Electronic Automatic Temperature Control.

The MK3 Mondeo also has EATC, not SATC.

Wow, I think it is in fact climate control users who are kidding themselves. Just to reiterate - I don't like climate control in manual. I also don't like driving around with my windows up.

FFS, why is it so hard to understand - climate control doesn't suit my usage, nor do I like climate control.

I'm intelligent enough to work out what my own preferences are and what suits me and what doesn't.

Thanks.

Woah I was just responding to the chap above's post when I said that, it's in no way directed at you or anyone to tell someone how to use their stuff! I was merely coutnering the whole 'but you can't open your window' thing :)

I'm the same, and my wife can't stand it! I couldn't give a monkeys if my car was auto climate or not, as long as there is air con of some description in it I'm happy. Manual doesn't bother me in the slightest and wouldn't care if that's what the car had.
