Focus ST

If I recall from the BMW I owned you had to set the temperature for each journey manually as it always defaulted to 20c once the ignition was turned on and off.
I think your mistaken there mate.

My e36 has not moved its temp setting for months, 18c for the passenger side and 22c for the drivers side.

Nope, it's completely fire and forget. It will, however, remember what you had it set to based on the key. So if you've got one set of keys, you start the car, set it to 20, go for a drive, come back, go inside, come out with another set, start it, set it to 22, etc etc, when you next use the first set of keys it'll set it to 20 again.

It amazes me how people spend small fortunes on cars they simply cannot be bothered to learn to work! Bizarre. I bet you know how your mobile phone or TV works! Did you just drive around the whole time thinking your car was to supposed to force you to set a temp every single journey?

There is climate control and climate control.

My volvo has fantastic climate control which quickly brings the car to temp and then runs with minimum fan noise so its left on auto all the time. My fiances mk1 focus also has climate control but on a hot day it takes an age before it drops the fan speed and its so loud that we sometimes end up setting the fan speed manually.

The end result from both cars is the same and when they are both down to 21c they are fine but its how they get there thats different. If her focus was the only climate control I had experience of then I would be far from a fan but clearly its implementation differs between cars.

I feel sorry for your passengers :p

I have a fussy teenage daughter who likes to be cool - literally!

If I had a spare key for my e36 I'd check this out, alas...... :o

I wonder if my mum and dad know about this? they are always bickering because each messes with the temp settings on their e46 & e39 respectively - I'll suggest they start using the spare keys that sit in my dads bedside cabinet.....
