Folding@Home News 10th - 17th November

Looks like i'm fighting a loosing battle with dekez & hanluc...... :(

How do i keep up?

Looks like you are doing ok now, level pegging with hanluc and twice as much PPD as dekez.

As to what to do, well you could sell the 860i an get a 970X to go in there :)

Or my dual octo core sub £1K plan is always possible if you sell the 860i and switch to that.. muhahaha!

Thanks for the news.

Time for me to say over and out. :(
Takes the edge off after years of folding (albeit on and off) and then get well and truly stomped by someone that has crunched 30 wu's :(

Best of luck all

What WU's have you been getting?
Lately it's been mostly 7501 and 7504, with some 69xx, 60xx, 71xx and 101xx thrown in.

Definitely don't do -advmethods and -bigadv switches together, just stick with -bigadv
That's what I read but I figured I'd try it both ways as -bigadv alone wasn't getting me anywhere. I'm folding with just -bigadv on now and have been for a few days.

It might be that you still have to do 10 SMP units again because of how long its been since you folded. Also to keep getting the bonus point WU's you have to successfully return >=80% of assigned WU's.
I've been folding for quite a while now :) and apart from one or two units that crashed because of a corrupted folding core I've returned every SMP unit I've folded successfully within the deadline, so it's definitely not a case of dropping below the 80% return rate.

So if you are ending non bigdav WU's becuase you are not getting them, you are shooting yourself in the foot because you will quickly drop below the 80% threshold and stop getting them or bonuses for any you do have.
I don't delete any units unless there's actually something wrong with them (had a few GPU units that were really messed up once), that's not how I roll. I fold whatever I get.

Dual Octo - sub £1k - have you mentioned this before?

Sorry to hear you're leaving, we'll always be here if you ever change your mind :)

First week folding for me and I'm enjoying it so far :D I should hopefully get to 100k total points by the next news thread.

Josh.

Sorry Steevo
It was never my intention to dishearten anyone, I hoped to be considered an asset to the team :(

Say hello to Andromeda...

and in her new rack home

She might not have Hydra's looks but she does have 32 MC cores even at 1.8 she is pulling 200+k on 6903's thats without the kraken or bios tweaks;)

She might not have Hydra's looks but at least she has a nice rack :D
Very nice Baba, so is this another g34 4p board with something like 6128HEs in it?

I finally picked up a bigadv! 6900, currently folding at just a hair under 24k ppd. Does that sound about right for an i7 930 at 4GHz?
Best I've had with normal SMP is something like 18k so it's a nice boost.

Yes 4P g34 but they are 6124's they run at 1.8 but hope to clock them up a little:D

Yes in the other thread about increasing the core count for bigadv.

For Opteron its going to be either just on, just under or just over depending where you shop around for parts.

Even from the Sca(m)-iest place online its

2 x 6128 = £423
1 x G34 dual socket mobo = £416
16 GB Ram = £89
Total incl vat = £928

Not sure i will catch ya Biffa she will not just be folding but folding is probably as much stress as you can give a rig so she is for a week or so just to make sure all is good:)

Also trying to find out from the [H] how to overclock stock G34 opterons on an SM board ,i will let you know on this one:eek:

Biffa what sort of ppd does your SR-2 pull down on a 6903?

I put Andromeda together for about £1080 but i reused a psu and rack i already had.

Sounds a bit low......

I'm getting 23k PPD on my i7 860 @ 4GHz - think I got close to 38k on my i7 920 (before upgrading it) but I think it was @ 4.2GHz and running Linux (Virtual Image).

Click link (in sig) for what my riggings are running at.
