Folding@home news 25th April - 2nd May 2013

Loving these 7663s. With all GPUs on 8071/8072 or 7660s, my max PPD was about 160,000. With all on 7624/5/6s, max PPD was about 250,000. With all GPUs on 7663s, PPD is sitting at about 370,000 :D Bit of a boost for us GPU Folders.

Another good week for the team. Less good for me as Penfold seems to have upped his game a bit and knocked me back to 5th place in PPD :( Need to get back home to get the SR-2 finished.

For us mere mortals with only one GPU card, even with boosted beta output, all you dualies and more are going to romp off further into the distance. It may be good for the overall team output, but for the minions. ....

And yes maybe we could get more GPUs, but few of us are rich enough to spend out life's savings on a farm.

Anyway everyone knows I am doing it for the hot chicks, thats what Feek told me when I was asked to join. :cool:
 
I've got a 7663 on my 670 suggesting a paltry 66000 ish PPD. I dunno, used ATI for years then at the last upgrade switched to nvidia mostly because of the folding potential only to see the goal posts moved after a few months :(

Sell! Could probably get near two 7950s or 7870 XTs (note the XT) for the price of one 670!!

Good for, Folding, Milkyway@home and Litecoin mining! :D

But not so good for gaming which this PC must be able to do well. I've never got on well with dual GPU setups.
 
Guys, is this the only setting to be changed for the beta projects?

Yesterday my PPD was up from 35k to 40k without changing anything.. but If beta will boost the productivity further ill give it a try :) (GTX580)

If you are folding an nVidia GTX400 series or AMD HD69xx or better video card, make sure you have your client set up to receive the quick return bonus (QRB) work units now in beta. You mainly need two things (3 with the v7 client):

1. A passkey - this is the same passkey you use for SMP work. I assume most of you have one already.

2. You need to set the beta flag. For the version 6.xx client, you just add -betateam to your shortcut to start the client. In v7, it is under the Configure button - Slots tab - Extra slot options. Add a new option, Name is client-type, Value is beta.

3. (v7 only) add another Extra slot option, Name is next-unit-percentage, Value is 100.

If you have any issues setting this up, please ask. The point value on these units is very high.
