Folding@Home News - 5th November - 12 November 2010

[MrBurns]Excellent[/MrBurns]

Just an update on the News Generator. I did actually end up going away this weekend, so only managed to spend a few hours on the script tonight.

However, I did manage to grab the stats at about 1230 today. That means when I grab the stats again on Saturday evening it will be 12 to 13 hours shy of a week. No big deal as we are still tweaking! :D

However, it should be close enough to see if we are on to a winner.

My script, so far, can successfully grab both Stanford and EOC stats - I have tested this plenty of times today and so far nothing has gone wrong!

*crosses fingers*

I have just finished the saving to XML part for comparing the current week with previous weeks' stats. This also appears to be robust, though I may add better error handling.

In a day or two I will do a dry run of the stats-comparison section of the script. No reason why this part shouldn't work - It worked last time and I have made no changes. However, the XML is a bit different, so we shall see!

Dekez, I may send you an "BETA" version of the script for you to try out yourself in a couple of days. Basically I want you to try and break it! :p

GTX460's - guess it's just the gpu clients then.

Thanks for the info :D

I've got my 2 460's running with a Q6600. With both cards and most other processes forced to 1 core its @ 50-60% usage giving upto 15K ppd per card depending on unit (~10K for the P6800's). The CPU using the other 3 cores gives 4-6K ppd.

I'm using PriFinitty64 as i couldn't get anything to stay 'set'. After the current WU finished it would default back to normal.

I will be surprised if he can break anything under "normal" use. There is one thing I know will cause an error, I just haven't decided on the best way to handle it. For the time being it is filed under "that'll teach you to do something obviously silly, wont it" :D

well my MSI GTX460 cyclone is ordered, should be here by wednesday ands should start folding about 10 minutes after i receive it lol, hopefully this will boost up my ppd by quite a bit seeing as i'm currently only using my ps3.

You picked the right man for the job! :D *runs*

Oi! :p But yeah I'll give it my best shot! :D

It will be good to start getting used to working with it, check it works ok scheduled etc. That reminds me actually I need to install powershell on my WHS.

Scheduling it should be easy. :D Famous last words! :p

After my test in a day or so the script should be "good enough" to use. I am working on making it as modular as possible, to make it easy to change in the future - as I would still like to try and generate our own stats, instead of relying on EOC.

One thing at a time! :p

Evening all :D

Why does the folding@home client go to sleep? Have restarted it a few times and each time it downloads a new fah core then goes to sleep?
Any advice much appreciated, looking at other posts is it not worthwhile using the cpu client too?
Ta muchly :)

Yup not long, just restarted so it retries about 5 times before it goes to sleep, will give it a few minutes then screen the log file.
Oh yeah it's morning :)

Bit of a puzzler as i have 3 instances running ok just this one bombs out on me :(

Try deleting everything in the folder but amdcalcl.dll, amdcalrt.dll, cudart.dll, client & the *.exe and giving it another go.

Re done the shortcut and folder thingummybobs and it seems to be working ok now - hurrah!
Now all i have to do is wait to see if once the first tasks are finished that they start another ok and i can get some work done am quite chuffed i got it going at last. The last 6 days of none crunching have been very cold and unfamiliar :)
