Folding@Home News - Attention Single-Machine Crunchers

Can you take me out of the single folding list.

Got 2 quads crunching now, After a weekend of pulling my hair out trying to get vista 64 running the smp client.
 
welcome - any problems just ask.
About 50% of the main posters here have quads (yes that's plural), so your in good company.

a quad can run up too 4 standard clients (1000 points a day) or two smp clients (more hassle but 3000+ ppd)

Bear in mind ive not been running overnight and only had 3 clients running as i needed one core for internet, dvd playing.

If i had the dosh, i would build 3 or 4 cheap systems just for folding.

You don't have to leave a core free - the client runs at the lowest priority possible so as soon as something else requires any CPU time it will back down. The only way you'll see the client affecting your use of the PC is if you get short of RAM as the clients can't back down their RAM usage during a WU.
 
i usually shut down 2 of the clients if im gaming but anything else all 4 will happilly chug along picking at the scraps left by internet/music/movies etc
 
Hey I'm just folding on my one machine! If I only I was rich enough to have more, but I'm afraid not. Only got one graphical client too, I notice someone further up saying they have 3 :-/ how does that work?

Each client uses a single core. If you've a multi-core CPU then you can run several clients.
