The SMP you say? atm I am running the standard client..... since the GPU client uses the other half of the cpu, which I think is being fixed in a next driver release so it uses much less.

I agree with eggy

I've got a Quad Core here and 1 of my cores is being used by the GPU client and the other 3 are free... I tried installing and using that SMP version from the F@H website but it asked me to log in or something, through a command line thing... I was baffled...

So yea, and the single client will only use 1 of my cores, still leaving the other 2 free... It is suffocating at night though, either have the windows open and have moths come in, or have them closed and burn up...
 
The smp client would have been asking for your Windows log-in name and password in the command line window. It needs certain permissions to work, and these can only be obtained if it knows your username and password.
 
I just redownloaded and reinstalled and tried the username password thing but it still didnt work... no problem though, it hot enough in my room the way it is, and i just opened my window a teeny bit to get some air, thinking moths woulnd't realise if it wasn't wide open, but god, the biggest moth came in and so I'm living in an oven again...

Actually technically I guess it'll be saturday looking at the time :eek: :o

edit: all updated and news to follow shortly - have lumped mogli's GPU-only set up in with the PS3 as it's probably unlikely many people will choose to use only a GPU if they can help it at all

Well, i dont know about that, i've been playing with the GPU on my 8800GT and it chucks out 4 times what my SMP did!!

Particularly if I shut down the SMP and let the GPU have a whole CPU to do with as it will, as well.

So I dunno, I might just go down that route too....

Tried that! But the GPU still took a whole core, which meant the SMP wasn't working properly (I'm only dual-core), so I think I'll get more points using one than using both!

Worth a try then for sure - I need to sort out a whole load more colour codes for CPU + GPU anyway so will seperate it from the PS3 then :)

I'm not sure if i'll fold very regularly in the future... I know I'm going on holiday for just over a month in 2 weeks-time, but when I'm back I might get started again... Cause my PSU still hasn't been sorted out so I just let the thing fold on my GPU to "run the chip in"... you know, keep it active... don't want fatty deposits in its arteries... then when I'm ready to overclock hopefully it'll be up for it straight away

by the way thanks for the personal stats link, it's been much better than the [Right Click] => [Status] => [User Statistics]... always saying to me something about how they cant show me my stats in order to "expedite" the update progress... had 2 google that word lol
 
btw I just wanted to see what my F@H client was doing... it said "F@h attempting to get work packet"... fired up the log and apparently it's been doing this since 8am... for example
[07:56:31] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[07:56:31] - Attempt #1 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

I think... I think we've done it!!!!! we've finished simulating all the protein folding!!! (with no thanks to PS3 users) lol

lol im joking, their server's probably just down or something... losing valuable CPU time tut tut
 
Yeah, the results server isnt accepting connections..

And of course, it's Independence Day weekend in the states, so don't hold your breath waiting for someone to restart it either (they're all p**sed!)
