Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 12th May 2006

Well I'm going thru a weekend of hell at the mo :(
Installed the new 3800X2 then had to install windoze all over again. All seemed to be fine, but as soon as I stressed the system by running POVray and something else, it all died, and the motherboard is dead still. Hit the power key and the CPU fan does a little twitch, but other than that nothing... :o
Then I couldn't even get the old P4 system back working, I think the UL8 motherboard did something to the memory chips. Lot's of swapping about of mem chips, and I've managed to get windows working again on the P4 eventually!
Let's just hope the 3800x2 CPU is ok and not fried.. I'll send the motherboard back.

So the upshot is, Bigstan, you can have your parp :) I'll prolly be a week or more before I can hopefully get this X2 working and churning out Wus!
 
Sorry to hear about your troubles over the weekend matey. Lets hope that the X2 is'nt dead.

On a more positive note, great couple of days since friday for me :D Crawling up the list slowly but surely. I hope it continues. Hopefully I will get another WU done today, making it 4 days in a row with a WU completed :D

Passed and holding off Tumbler for the time being and onto passing custard...

wo, at least im not the only one with crap pc luck, i feel for ya mate :(

good luck with the rma. :)

on a side note, my 920 died(did 4.2 prime stable) :( but i got a 930 as a replacement, now this cpu sucked, it couldnt do 3.8 without rise in vcore, and now, after a v-droop mod this p5wd2-e prem does 4.1 stable stock vcore :D but i cant go higher due to aircooling, going to order a tripple rad, ddc ultra, storm and get the thing to around 4.8 at least then fah will go on it.
The ram also died with the 920, 5400ul, so was some good stuff, but the new stuff does 1100mhz 4-4-4-12 :eek:

Its the same board that Im planning on getting when I get some cash. Probably start off with a 2.66GHz Smithy first then go for a 930 Presler.

Take it the vdroop mod is essential for good performance...?
 
Well this was the best week for me yet :D
I Actually managed to get my PC's on for a bit this week especially loving the 2 wu's worth 772 points on the 05.08.06 :p

I could also cut it off after 50 entries but I'd rather stick with the 1,000 (or almost) points that it has been since I've started

edit: I also prefer the news with the darker background - might have to "quote" the news from now on :p

Shows how much I've been looking at the stats recently - pretty much not at all. :(
 
hehe no worries - figured you must have been busy when you didn't show up to post after I'd dropped your name a couple of times :D

we swapped cells a few times over the couple of days, think i'm stuck in this one for quite a while now :o ;)

patriot pc8000,

vdoop is essential, it droops too much under load for it to be stable :(

dont bother with the presler, get the 2.66 and some water and wait for conroe tbh, the 920 was the best ever but they discontinued it :(
 
Nice stats. Was just away for 5 days so my output will be down last wk/this wk by a bit because it was switched ***, but back on form now I hope.

Not as satisfying stomping someone when they're having problems but consider yourself STOMPED :D

Hope you get everything sorted soon mate :)

I will be home next week and will, hopefully get all my rigs back up and running to full capacity. Will have to run them at stock whilst away though. Hopefully that will keep them running whilst unattended.

At least 2 months until someone else stomps me though, at current rates .. yes, Ricko, I'm looking at you :)

I've never had an RMA before, so I'm struggling with that atm. I don't think I can post a motherboard for £5 so they'll have to collect it. I only hope it's the 30 pound mobo that's screwed and not the 200 pound 3800x2 cpu !!!
