Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 7th June 2007

Right then, since this is your fault - that's right, I am blaming you sonnymeladjim - spec me:

A small to medium case with PSU. I may overclock so it would need to be fairly decent PSU. Would also need to fit my AC Freezer 64 Pro.

I can acquire a HDD with no problems - pretty sure I have a spare. Also have a spare DVD drive.

Your budget... really small! [stay under 50 quid, postage not included]

Off you go then.

Hm.....been in the same-ish situation myself, this is what i arrived at back then:

Akasa Zen Case - Black Silent Cool Midi-ATX Computing case w/2 silent 12cm fans w/o PSU

£28.78

380W Enermax Coolergiant AX Series EG385AX-VHB(G)(SFMA) ATX PSU, 12V Version 1.3, aPFC

£22.20

Fits the bill, I bought a 330w tagan but they are slightly more expensive now, google the whole product names to find them.

I'm trying SMP again, on a 2610. I wonder if I'll meet the deadline of 4 days.

Its a Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5500. Hmmmmm.

If all goes well then I'll put it on the Quad Core server at SQN. Xeons eh :p

Edit: How long on average does a percent take on the SMP WU's ?

Not going bad so far. 36minutes.

Sent off another couple of WU's this morning and when the server has gotten through the ones it's doing at the moment I'll change it out for SMP.

Questions
Can you pause the SMP client ?
Can you run it as a service ?

Ooh thats interesting, so a 1.86GHz laptop C2D, which is under constant use from me most of the day, beats a 2GHz E6300....Hmmm
The chipset can't bottle it that badly can it ?

Lets just hope this one doesn't crash. I'm currently trying to put the SMP on the server but it doesn't seem to like Server 2003 :(

It not great ram either Kingstone value kit 2x1GB DDR2 533@580 CL5 :o
but the chipset can really make a difference.

But I also run photoshop and AutoCAD on my workstation :D

Edit: I couldn't get it to run on mine either - It did run 2 or 3 standary units at a time (but our external IT guys spotted it so it's just doing server things now :o )
