Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 8th June 2006

If i get one more bloody tinker i'll cram it so far down the .....

I mean i've been getting dodgy WU's the last 2 weeks now and hopefully i'll be back to 1000+ production this week.

*goes on a tinker extermination spree*

The quick and easy guide to folding at home phrases:

Stomping is overtaking.
Dumping is submitting points.

;)

So top stompers are those who have overtaken the most people and top dumpers are those who have submitted the most points.

Whats a top Stomper :o
Joe's got it right. I might as well go ahead and answer a question you'll ask in the future. A Parp is a warning of impending stompification. It is considered polite to issue a parp before stomping someone. Issue parps when you think you'll be stomping someone who will actually read it.

Parp to Mr. KillBait! Beware of impending stompiness under the vulcanized rubber galosh of one BillytheImpaler(OcUK) two weeks from this moment.

I'm 2 cores down at the moment :( One of the cores on my new X2 3800 didn't start after I got my buddy to pull the oc back due to heat problems and one of the cores on the Opty 170 has had an EUE and keeps trying to send completed WUs but it can't find any but for some reason won't download another one

I've given my mate instructions on how to start the service on the 3800 if and when he's by the flat next but the Opty is locked in my bedroom and he won't be able to access that one :(

On the plus side, I seem to be getting a few double gromacs just now and I even had one of those, only too elusive, 364 pointers the other day so output is still reasonable.

Thanks as always to Rich for the news and welcome to the new members - FOLD ON TEAM 10 :D

Stan :)

And I finally beat a dual core! Although yet another dual has crept in above me so i'm still p5 :(

Cheers for the stats Rich.

I've been here a while dude ;) ...my score would be higher if my connection wasnt cut off every night.

Are you running multiple instances?
Assuming your on dual core, try running 4 instances instead of two with two of then set to low priority and two set to idle. Then when two are finished the other two can begin. I have mine like that and it works very well.

If 4 isn't enough you can have up to 8 but having any more means you would have more than one instance at the same priority level on the same core so the core would switch between the two wasting a little cpu time. Still better than having an idle cpu tho.

Bingo, do this. If having no Internet is very common you can set the lower-priority instance to recieve regular WUs, rather than deadlineless ones as suggested in the FAH sticky.

I'll try that.

Once I get a hsf for the P4....QMD time! :p
I highly recomend the 38mm panaflo and Scythe Ninja combination, preferably with the panaflo at the back ducted to the ninja with a lower flow fan in front. Causes it to draw airflow in from all sides and means my cpu temp is only 48 with room temp at 30, while the rest of these slackers have to lower their clocks. ;)

That reminds me, forgot to mention to lay-z-boy that he ought to try making a duct or two, i find it knocks a few degrees off and you seem to have run out of other options...

There haven't been any QMDs since January, mate. :(

Cant hurt hoping...

Edit: Ok 4 instances running on the X2, 2 using pretty much 100%, the other 2 occasionally use a few percent..
