Ok how much RAM do you think I should have for my Linux box running the SMP client??

Stelly
If running natively 1GB should be more than enough - 512MB would probably be pushing it severely. If using VMware within windows then you need to double it to be comfortable.

Droppy trend line their stan, you must be waving to hard :p
We'll just ignore the fact that most peoples graphs start a 0 where as yours is 3000ppd ;)

It may be a bit droopy but I'm really quite pleased.

I've been away for 3 1/2 weeks now and as far as I can tell, I've only lost one rig since then (the E6300 was switched not on before I left due to stability issues which I didn't have time to fiddle with before I left.

Stan :)

PS: The "droop" may possibly get a shot of e-Viagra when I get back ;)

If I were to go for a custom folding machine, bearing in mind it wouldn't be the hottest spec, what would the best os/folding client be?

And does it benefit more from large system RAM, or more processor speed?

core 2 with 1gig ram and linux so it could run SMP
I can't use my c2d machine for linux, I use it for video editing, modelling, and finale :(

What about a pIV with 1.8GB ram? Is Hyper-threading any good?

Wish I could use some of the quad processor-dual core, 4gb ram servers we use at work, wonder if I could ninja it onto a few of them :p

Edit: sorry, whats smp?

no you can

SMP is a client made for dual/quad/more core systems, basicaly runs 4 copys of FAH and makes better use of the multiple cores.

see the SMP Guide thread
