Foo Fighters to play Hyde Park!

Sorry KaHn, I don't want to start an argument - but I really can't agree when you say that the Foo's fame was based a lot on Nirvana. Sure, DG's connection may have helped a bit - but if you think that when their second album was released (TCATS) nearly 10 years ago, they were virtually unknown over here (and from what I gather, not particularly big in the States).

That's a decade of hard graft & excellent songwriting to get their fame.

If DG hadn't been in Nirvana he would have been a no-one in the Foo Fighters. People paid attention to the Foo Fighters because DG was in them, but kept buying their albums becasue FF are accessible.

Personally i didn't notice them because of the Nirvana connection (never been keen on Nirvana), I just liked the music and continue to do so :)
Doesn't matter in the slightest to me what band Dave Grohl was in beforehand.
The same can be said of the friend who introduced me to the Foo Fighters' music years ago.

So are you saying that they wouldn't have succeeded if Dave Grohl hadn't been in Nirvana

There's one or two other really famous bands whose members weren't in Nirvana either, unless you hadn't noticed!! ;)

Theres also a lot of bands, good and bad, who just don't make it. For once I totally agree with CBS - Dave Grohl's involvement got FF on the ladder of music and gave a reason for the uninitiated to listen - I hasten to use the word "gimmick".

They have continued success years later as they are a good band who write good songs. :)

I agree that it obviously helped - but I've heard too many people (not necessarily here) say they wouldn't have made it without the connection. You just can't make that assumption.

I'm saying that FF may not have had the oportunity to be successful if people weren't still clamouring to see what ex-Nirvana member DG was going to do next

non-sequitur - look it up

im just home my god brilliant gig as i expected, but ive never worked on such a busy bar
I walked past at least 2 bars that had queue's a 1/3 the length of the venue, absolutely unreal, they couldnt serve it fast enough.

The top spender was one guy who bought 2 crates of Grolsh and 2 crates of smirnoff ice that came to an eye watering £288

I saw people buying crates so they didnt need to keep going up, but jesus, that's unbelievable!

Really enjoyed the gig and day (even if the acoustics weren't really up to scratch), apart from AVA, they were tripe. I didnt like the album, but that was worse than I was expecting. QOTSA and Motorhead were both excellent, particularly Motorhead.... gotta give the old rockers their dues. Foos were awesome, of course, and it was a great set list. Was really blown away by the special guests, wasn't expecting that at all, people went nuts... tops.

Went back to Rich's after the gig and stayed up playing drinking games, and singing till the sun came up. Not the worst day I've ever had :) Got some vids but the sound isn't great.. might upload a couple if I can shrink them enough.

The Ranbow Warrior bar i was on was the busiest bar on site and your right we couldnt pour carling quick enough even when its poured 12 pints at a time you'd put it down and it would be gone in seconds,
i agree about angels and airwaves what a load of crap and Tom Delong rabbiting on when he should have been playing just made it worse, ace of spades got everyone behind our bar jumping just as we were all flagging though so was all good :D

I had fun but the sound quality wasn't as good as Reading last year, from where I was standing at least. I was near the front of the general admission area. Couldn't see the stage at all and rarely got a glimpse of the screens because I was too busy trying to stay standing from being shoved around so much. And when Grohl was standing on the walkway near where I was, I couldn't even tell because I just couldn't see anything.

Glad I saw them at Earls Court last year then :D , still I wish I was there :(

OMFG how awsome was that gig?!?!?!!!!!! Just got home

Managed to get to the front of the outer circle and was so close to dave when he was singing everlong! All acts were good apart from AVA, his Jesus speeches sucked as and the loudest cheers he got were when he mentioned Blink182.

The sets were awesome! The crowed was mental!! so crushed. The mosh pits were insane, several people had to helped out due to fainting etc.

How crazy was it when waiting for the Foos to come on? There were like 100 bottles all getting chucked about in the air. T'was crazy I tell thee :D

Suprise act was great too when Talor sung! And the Probot song  Pure class, best £35 i've ever spent.

No you get me all wrong, I believe that the foo's are awesome and do deserve all the fame they have, but I also think that they wouldn't of gotten signed and promoted half as well if DG hadn't been part of Nirvana.

I still think they would have been a huge band but not as quickly, yes I know 10yrs of graft on their part but still it was relativly unheard of bands to go to superstardem in 10 yrs only a few key bands did.

Dave worked incredibly hard for his band imo, sure Nirvana helped but mostly influenced imo.

Dave recorded the 1st album by his self!

Wow, what an amazing gig.

Qotsa were pretty good, although the sound quality wasn't great. I was looking forward to see Motorhead even though the only song I knew was 'Ace of Spades' and tbh they all sounded simliar.

However Foo's were far the best, the really did put on a show.

Some pic's for you, I was in golden circle right next to the walkway so got some nice ones. ;)

Sadly my camera battery died about a minute after he first came down the walkway, and most of my other photos are overexposed and blurred due to the lighting. :(

Did you get any of Brian May?

My mate was also taking photos so I'll ask him if he's got any good ones of May, he's got a much better camera than me so he might have some good ones of the stage as well.
