foobar2000 gets ever closer to that v1.0 release

What does everyone use to get album art on foobar2000?

I really like the Discogs plug-in which works fine apart from the album art which I can't get to write to files correctly. Any ideas?

For FLAC files, I just use a folder.jpg in the folder with the album and it picks it up fine. By default, mp3 files don't seem to work with this method - guess they expect you to write it to the tags.

Folder.jpg works fine for MP3s for me. I'll have a look later to see if I've done anything special to get it working.

beta2 is out. :)

edit: as for the talk about album art, by default foobar supports

folder.jpg
front.jpg
cover.jpg
%filename%.jpg
%album%.jpg
and embedded album art (this is now bottom of the priority list. in 0.9 it always took precedent over artwork in folders - but this has been reversed in v1)

also new in v1 is that you can specify your own paths to artwork without the need for 3rd party components. for example, you could store your artwork in a completely separate folder away from your music and use this...

d:\pictures\album artwork\%album%.jpg

the only thing to note is that it chokes on really big files. not sure on the exact limit but i'm sure i've read threads on hydrogen audio where people have 10mb image files and they won't load. :p

Fair enough! Not sure why it didn't work for me, maybe something up with my files. I've replaced the only one's I had with FLAC files now anyway so not a big deal for me.

Marc2003: What main components are you using in that layout posted above? May try a new layout at some point, never quite happy with mine. Only have 900 vertical pixels, so it can get a bit awkward with playlists/library in a thin layout...

i'll post my config later and you can give it a try. i've also added buttons so you can turn toggle the library/album art view on or off. my screen is only 960px high so this frees up a bit more space for your playlist.

edit: or assuming you don't mind getting stuck in at the deep end, i'm using ELPlaylist (for columns UI). it's bit a of a bugger to learn how to use. that's why i was going to upload mine. :p

Hey guys just wondering if anyone can shed some light. Do I need to place "cover.jpg" in the direct folder, or is 'up one' ok?

NM, answered my own question :p.

Ha, awesome, that would be great.

I'll have a play around my end too, may have a bit of free time this weekend but would probably just use yours in the end :p

I keep switching between Foobar and Media Monkey (with Otachan ASIO)

I find MM more intuitive (from a default setup) but I still like Foobar

I have used foobar for years now and I love it. I made the below config about 2 years ago and I find it perfect for me. One of the best things done with foobar recently was the automatic library updates, that should have been a feature right from the get go IMO.

I can't get your configuration running for some reason - it just brings up the quick layout dialog and I can't find anywhere to import your config. Both configuration files are in the appdata folder created by foobar (it's in Roaming, is this ok?), both in the main folder and under one I created named "configuration". Even put them into the main Program Files -> Foobar2000 folder.

No joy.

EDIT: Am I missing the fcl and fcs files?

no. version 1 makes .fcl importing redundant. each component now has it's settings split into individual .cfg files. simply copying over these files into your profile configuration folder should have done the trick. i did test this before uploading the files and it worked fine for me.

was foobar definitely closed when you copied these files over? (i should have put moved in the readme file - they don't need to be in the main foobar folder at all)

and what are the first two lines in the readme? :p

requirements:

foobar v1 beta

you might want to backup your old config file first. v1 will open it fine and use all your existing settings but it's not backwards compatible. it's unlikely you'd go back but you never know.

Shh :p

It's all working now though, thanks! just need to rename some of my covers to be picked up but it's all good besides!

EDIT: I lost my Default UI one anyway, backed up the theme but not the config. Yes, that was stupid. It can be remade within 20 mins so it's nothing terrible.

foobar stores the default UI theme in a file called theme.fth - assuming you didn't delete this, you can switch back to it using file>preferences>display. a restart is needed when switching UI but you can keep both layouts totally separate from each other.

Did it properly, cleared my settings to it wiped it (thought it was just the Columns UI settings but nope, was global!). I do like this layout though, it's a lot clearer than my previous effort (as seen on the desktop thread).
