Football and the Coronavirus

Perfect timing, gets him out of international duty and he's banned the next three domestic games anyway. They probably did the equivalent of a chicken pox party.
 
The Brazil Argentina WC Qualifying match has descended into chaos after Brazilian Health Authorities came onto the pitch to try and arrest the four players that play in the Premier League (Martinez, Lo Celso, Buendia & Romero) as they were supposed to have quarantined for 14 days after being in the UK and shouldn't be playing. Brazil-Argentina game halted after confusion over Covid regulations - BBC Sport The game has been halted while football authorities are discussing with the Health authority. Imagine if FIFA said that South American players need to be released 14 days before matches!?

I sat down to watch it and wondered what was going on.
The Brazilians ended up putting a goal on the halfway line and having a match amongst themselves.

I believe the whole Argentina squad have high tailed it to the Airport with the intention of getting out of Dodge before they are forced into quarantine!
 
There should be some huge backlash on this. The argentines defence seems to be "nobody told us they couldn't play" which is complete rubbish. The players themselves had been told not to travel by the clubs but defied them and left the country to meet up with the national squad.

At the end of the day it's just the players and national side not caring about a countries laws and the clubs that pay their wages wishes.

I mean seriously it was big sports news that Prem players wouldn't be released to redlist countries and I'm sure they knew the UK was on Brazils redlist. They were facing a Brazil team minus 10 odd players for that very reason.....

Just trying to get a competitive edge in my view but way overstepping the line. Just the sheer balls behind it. I know people will be fined but that really doesn't seem like enough in this case. The 3 points might go to Brazil (hopefully not to Argentina) but even so they should probably have a few taken away.
 
So nothing much was gained by them not going and playing anyway, as Brazil have now played a FIFA rule which states they can enforce their players not playing for their clubs for 5 days. Which means that Ederson, Jesus cant play for Man City against Leicester , Silva cant play for Chelsea against Villa and Zenit St Petersburg and Allison, Fabinho and Firmino cant play for Liverpool against Leeds , who also cant now play Raphinha

Firmino is injured anyway but the loss of Allison is a big one.

City can't play two of their huge and massively talented squad? How will they cope? It's hardly like Leicester losing schmeichel and vardy.

Its been discussed in the other thread but by all accounts they will be given permission to play.

If they are banned from playing then City will have to call upon Scott Carson lmao.

To be fair our backup GK is better than theirs, and do they even have a backup striker? :D Still won't beat them though!
