If I was him then I wouldn't have taken a pay cut either. Arsenal have done everything they can to make him look like the bad guy over the past 18 months in an attempt to get him to leave the club because of their own stupid decision to give him this crazy contract.

Have the names of the others, that didn't agree a pay cut, been leaked?

The silly thing is it is the player that loses out. The Krankies are still going to be rich out of their wildest dreams. It is people like them who the media should be going after. I bet they haven't put any money in. Look at Richard Branson. He has so much money and his own island! Yet is asking the government to bailout Virgin Atlantic.

It looks like he's finally put up his island as collateral for a government loan.

Ozil deserves all the bad press he's getting for it. There's no other reason for it than plain greed. He earns more in a month than the majority of people will in a lifetime, unless he's donating large sums of his wages to various good causes, then there's no excuse.

Not sure if that table is for scrapping this season, or next. If the former, then i can't see how the numbers are very accurate. With the season almost finished, the clubs would have earned the bulk of their TV and matchday revenue etc.
 
It's a rough estimate based on the amount of revenue the PL said they'd lose and each clubs commercial revenue. The figures won't be far wrong.

Why should Ozil take a pay cut to benefit a multi billionaire owner, who has invested nothing into the club (and even charges the club for his services) and is using Arsenal as collateral on billions of $'s worth of loans to make him even richer through investments in the US? That's just the financial arguement. You then have the fact that Ozil has been made a scapegoat for Arsenal's failures for years and the club has done all they can to paint him as the bad guy because he won't leave the club. You only have to look at the fact that his name has been leaked and not the other players who have also refused pay cuts.

But yes, Ozil does donate large sums to good causes and long before this situation too.
 
Ozil does loads for charity.
  • paying for 1,000 vital operations for children across the world
  • feeding 100,000 homeless people at 16 refugee camps in Turkey and Syria
  • paying £240,000 to fund operations for sick kids in Brazil
  • working for children's charity Rays of Sunshine
 
If the seasons scrapped, UEFA are proposing using the coefficient system to decide champions league places. If so, we would scrape in ahead of Chelsea and Spurs. I’ll take it :p

I mentioned this already in a sentence or two saying that it's the owners responsibility to pay for the staff, not the players
 
I don't see how cancelling this season will help next season given there's expected to be another outbreak next winter. We'll just be in the same position again until a vaccine is found.
 
Leagues without big tv deals will end their seasons. Putting on games behind closed doors won't ease their financial problems, in fact in most cases it will cost them even more money. These non League side squads (in the most part at least) are made up of players on rolling contracts - they can't and don't want to keep paying them with no revenue coming in. It's cheaper for them to end the season and wait for next season to start, whenever that may be.

The bigger leagues with highly valuable players on hugely expensive contracts, with massive tv deals will do all they can to finish this season. They can't afford to not pay players and without completing the season they'll lose huge amounts of money that are crucial to them affording to pay these players.

That definitely won't happen with the 50% of remaining games that BT and Sky own the rights to and almost certainly wouldn't happen with the rights to the games that haven't been sold. Sky and BT have paid billions for their games and won't want any other broadcaster stealing their viewers. The only way the outstanding games are shown would be if they're shown by Sky/BT or another broadcaster buys the rights from the PL and compensates Sky/BT and I can't imagine any free to air channel being able to do that.

edit: a possibility would be if Sky/BT get given the rights to broadcast all games and the ones they've not paid for, they show on their platform but free to air.

A reason to end it early would be that the transfer window could open and allow the teams that are struggling to sell some players and balance their books. Once the new season starts and fans are allowed in the money will start to roll in again.

And who is going to buy these players? If you take away over £1bn from the PL then there will be very limited clubs at that level that can afford to buy players, let alone further down the Leagues. And you can be fairly sure that the likes of City, Liverpool and Utd won't be looking to buy League 1 players that are in desperate need of cash.

I was talking about the Premiership. The rich clubs will take advantage of the poorer ones.

Even within the PL, who is buying these players? Lets work on the worst case scenario and the season is cut short and sides are losing an average of £50m each, you're going to be left with just a handful of clubs able to spend anything, with 90% of Europe looking to sell. Your City's and Liverpool's won't be looking to buy players from Burnley or Brighton, will they? They'll cherry pick the best players from clubs all over Europe. The transfer window is not a solution.

Lower Leagues are going to be ****ed regardless now. There's not likely to be football with crowds until the new year, which might mean as much as a 50% drop in revenue for League 1 sides. Forget buying and selling players, we're going to see squad sizes slashed and a lot of pros becoming ex-pros, with academy players taking their spots.
