I got the invite and bumf etc. but haven't been to the exhibition but have read quite a bit from people who have and it certainly sounds and looks awesome.
Hopefully the 'Locals' don't put up too much of a fight if/when we submit planning.
Unless you're Abramovich Jnr or Chelsea fans when it's just great thanks.
Still, Chelsea will be ****ed when he get's bored and sells up right?
Happened to our lot when Jack Walker passed away, interest and cash for the club dried up and they couldn't wait to get rid.
Chelsea have offered about £11 million a year to use Wembley as a temporary home while Stamford Bridge is rebuilt.
The club have made a presentation to Wembley Stadium’s board and want to play at the national stadium for three seasons, probably from the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
Chelsea appear to have stolen a march on Tottenham Hotspur, who will need to leave White Hart Lane for two seasons from 2017 as their new stadium is built and are thought to have offered Wembley about £8 million a year.
The Wembley board is facing strong pressure from the Premier League clubs to use the 90,000-capacity stadium but is not believed to have made a decision on whether to rent it to a team, which could have a knock-on effect for other sporting and music events that generate money.
There could also be planning issues to negotiate because the number of events that can be staged in a year at Wembley is restricted, if the attendance is above 50,800, although the constraint can be circumvented if the top tier is closed to fans.
Other factors for the board to take into account include the stadium being used for American football matches in autumn at present — there still being the possibility of a London-based NFL franchise — and the FA contemplating staging England home matches around the country again after 2017. This would happen after the initial ten-year debentures, which underpin the £757 million stadium’s business plan, have expired.
Chelsea, who revealed architects’ plans for their proposed new stadium last week, approached the Rugby Football Union about using Twickenham as a temporary venue last summer, but there would be significant issues in obtaining planning permission for an increase in the number of events, in the face of hostile local residents.
There are also issues about segregation and potential political barriers. Vince Cable, the former MP for the borough, voiced his concerns about the idea of Chelsea using the ground when he wrote to the RFU in September.
Chelsea plan to hold a formal public consultation about their new stadium plans in September and the club expect to lodge a planning application to Hammersmith & Fulham Council by the end of the year. The plan is that the team would return to their rebuilt stadium from 2020.
Tottenham are at risk of losing the race for Wembley, despite having informal talks with stadium officials a number of years ago. The north London club are reluctant to try to seek permission to share the Olympic Stadium because of a poor relationship with West Ham United, who won a bitter battle between the clubs to rent the stadium from the 2016-17 season.
Tottenham also fear that the 54,000-seat stadium will be heavily branded by the east London club, which could lead to problems for their fans.
Tottenham considered using Upton Park, which has been sold to Galliard to turn the site into 700 homes, but there would be substantial costs of refurbishing the stadium because everything will be ripped up when West Ham leave at the end of the new season.
Tottenham appear to be confident of striking a deal to use stadiummk in Milton Keynes, if all else fails, despite their fans citing “serious issues” with the venue in a poll conducted by the Tottenham Supporters’ Trust in September last year.
Tottenham are expected to lodge a new planning application for a 61,000-seat arena, with the necessary facilities to play American football matches, which the club hope could help to attract a partner for funding the development. The club were given permission to build a 56,000-seat stadium three years ago and started their project in 2007.
