Football Banter Thread

Well Klopp has said he wants to manage in the Premier League now, it could get interesting!

I'd rather see Klopp than Ancelotti at Liverpool in all honesty.

Personally I think that Rodgers has been a dead man walking since the 6-1 loss at Stoke with the majority of the fans. As soon as we hit a patch of bad form the rumblings would invariably have started, especially as there are 2 far superior managers looking for work.

The biggest problem is that it hasn't taken very long for the bad form to hit and given that we are 4 seasons in we are still no closer to having an identity, the football we currently play is the worst that I can remember in living memory. He buys players not suited to his formation and loans players out that seemingly are. Then there is the baffling transfer decisions, Milner, Markovic, Shelvey, Balloteli, Lallana, Lovren et all (not even going into his 1st seasons buys/loans and how he used them). There is no plan, I get the impression each game is approached with no planning and no idea how to utilise the players he has bought. We start with his preferred formation 4-3-3, that goes to **** then we stumble on a formation that works then play that until the opposition figure out how to nullify it (last seasons 3-4-3, and this season given the last 2 games it will be 3-5-2). Compare Hodgsons last 15 games to Rodgers last 15 game and the result with Hodgpodge were better, more goals scored, less conceded and more points or at the least the same points.

We often hear how last season was an anomaly, "we had no strikers" is the mantra repeated over and over and over. Well we did, we had 4, he binned one off on loan sharpish and then proceeded to get all 3 to under perform horrifically and give us their worst seasons ever. Co-incidence or just bad management? I know where I fall.

For those Liverpool fans claiming it would be 'too soon', Rodgers is the 2nd longest serving manager in the premiership and as a marker, Souness got 2.5 seasons, Evans got 3.5, Dalglish got 1.5, and they all won trophies aswell.

The owners need to be doing everything they can to get Klopp in, yes Klopp rather than Ancelotti. For me Klopp is more suited to working with the quality in our squad, its not a team of World Beaters like CA is used to. They need to act fast to save our season imo, wait until Christmas and we have no chance in any competition, pull the trigger now and its not too late.

Rodgers just looks clueless and as other have pointed out the transfers have been terrible as well.

They gave him all that money to spend in the Summer may as well back him till the end of the year to see if he can turn it around.

I can't imagine they'll be giving him much money in January. At no point in a long while has it really looked promising, and yet every game becomes a 'well, now it's really bad' scenario.

It's hard to believe that the owners will wait too much longer.

Firmino should all be performing a lot better, be it down to Rodgers, who knows.

Firmino is all on Rodgers, he isn't a wide forward, he doesn't play on the left or the right. He needs to play centrally, as a 10. Unfortunately as noted when he was bought, the more he plays out of position, the worse he looks.

How much blame falls at his feet, and how much should fall at the feet of the rest of the transfer committee (and those who insist they use that model), and why?

Ye it's a messed up situation. Some fans are also wanting the owners out as well.

Dont think they are that bad the owners but Liverpool always has ambitions of being a top club but the club just cant get any consistency.

1 or 2 promising seasons and then it always takes a few steps backwards. It's kind of stuck on repeat like that the passed few years.

Liverpool are always getting promising managers and players they are never really getting the best managers or players available.

It's always going to be a struggle to win when u cant attract the best players and managers.

If Pool can get Klopp, they should jump at the chance. Rodgers isn't going anywhere with Liverpool i don't think. It doesnt help that the PL is so competitive between a lot of clubs though, unless you have UTD's, Chelsea's or City's spending power...theres going to be a gap there for a while to come. Would Klopp win anything if he went there? It's hard

Wonder if utd may try for klopp? With all the recent talk of players not being happy under van gaal etc.

Not sure what's happened or where's it's being reported but Liverpool forums are going mad about something Tony Barrett has said.

Edit: Apparently Sturridge is a committee signing that Rodgers repeatedly tried to block. Sure that's old news.

It is very old news - by all accounts, Couts and Sturridge were committee signings in the January window as 'they' realised Rodgers is an appalling judge of player.

Wilson has signed a new contract

Louis van Gaal said: “James is one of the brightest young English prospects and we are delighted he has signed a new contract. He is a very talented forward player and has a keen eye for goal. His development is continuing in the right direction and it is clear to see that he has a fine future ahead of him."

But not enough to put him on the bench against Ipswich....

He played just 2 days before that match in the U21 game so probably wouldn't have been fit. That begs the question of why play him in the U21 game instead in the first place though.

It's the League Cup at home to Ipswich.

Like you said why would you want to play him 2 days after the U21 game?
