Football Banter Thread

Jesus, there's trying to be positive to give a player confidence and there's heaping so much praise on him that it becomes a joke and the player get's taunted. I imagine even his own team mates cannot stop laughing.

Perhaps he's hoping to sell him back to United for £27m?

Having called Gareth Barry one of England's greatest ever players, Roberto Martinez has now claimed that Tom Cleverly is one of the most sensational players in PL history :D

According to Martinez he also has the best striker in Europe and the best young defender in Europe.

Making a rod for his own back isn't he?

Zouma out for six months .

BBC Link.

The screams were horrible, it looked a horrific landing.

Despite him playing for Chelsea I am a huge fan of Zouma, fantastic young centre back, and a football manager legend! :).

Never nice to see a young lad injured like that. I felt really bad when Shaw broke his leg and you could tell from the second you saw Zoumas face he was in a lot of pain. Literally screaming in agony.

Gutted for the lad, I'm not sure how these things go but his power and pace are without doubt his best attributes and an injury like that may curtail those in the future.

I've never been Terry's biggest fan, but I feel a bit bad for him atm. Don't think he's being treated very fairly by Chelsea.

I think they may be waiting until a new manager is secured, whoever that is may not want him.
Or waiting to see if they can get another CB in.

He deserves it!
Because?

I am gutted for him too, think it has come at quite an unfortunate time for Chelsea too. On the eve of the Champions league returning where an ageing, slow centre back pairing of Cahill and Terry could be problematic.

To be honest, and I have said it for a long time, I consider Terry to be incredibly overrated and he is a grade a thunder ****. He is a universal figure of hate of every non Chelsea fan :p. I do not think he would play for another English club side (I think he said something along these lines too) and I could see him moving out to play in America (They speak English), or following the money and going to China / Middle East.

I think Terry would be very hesitant about moving to a non English speaking country, American culture is not a million miles away from English culture.

Saying that, he is 35? (I think) and Chelsea are without a full time manager so I doubt the decision to offer him a contract extension is anything beyond "He's 35, we should wait and see what the new manager wants to do".

I think Terry should have kept his mouth shut over this, if asked about it, just said that it is a club matter rather than say there is no offer.
