Football Banter Thread

Just Googled him and the first link I went to contained another link about a Vietnamese player called Tran Ding Dong who received a 28 game ban... Ding Dong! What an awesome name :D

Read an article about him (i think) on the BBC website last week or so. I'm pretty sure the team were going to appeal his ban. I forget what it was for though.

EDIT

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26464186 yep it was for that challenge!

I think in cases for tackles that bad, where it's clearly not just an accident, then the minimum ban should be based on the injury sustained + a decent ban on top. So if the broken leg guy misses 6 months, so does the guy who did it, then give him another 5 games on top or something.

I have a funny feeling that my football score app isn't quite correct.

Could have been a lot worse. Lucky guy!

In other news, Kaboul has had his red card overturned from the Chelsea game. Are refs going to stand up and notice that the opposition keep doing this to us now? Probably not. You'd have thought they'd have learnt after the Danny Rose v City incident, apparently not. Good to have Kaboul back though.

Somewhat ironically, Anelka has just been sacked for announcing he was quitting :)

I thought it was good when I read that Anelka was quitting last night on the bbc website that the club remarked that no official talks had been made only the Twitter statement by anelka himself. I was lead to believe that these things aren't offical until they're announced on facebook or Twitter :p

Anyone else read stuff about their team and have to stop after the first couple of paragraphs because what's being said is just absolute drivel?

Was just reading an article in the Telegraph about Spurs and the journalist claims:

Of the seven players signed for former manager Andre Villas-Boas, only Christian Eriksen has convinced Sherwood that he was worth the fee paid – £11.5 million, in his case. That casts doubt over the futures of record £30  million signing Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado, midfielders Paulinho and Étienne Capoue, winger Nacer Chadli and defender Vlad Chiriches.

I think that's absolute nonsense.

Eriksen is by far the player proving best. But since Sherwood has been in charge, Paulinho was out from mid-December so he couldn't play him but now he's back Sherwood is playing him. He was also played all the time under AVB. Nothing wrong with Paulinho.

Lamela has also been out since December-ish and so Sherwood equally hasn't really had a chance to show the club what he thinks of him. Admittedly he was no shining light under AVB but most seem to concur he may just need more time adjusting to the league. I think most fans would be willing to give him next season too.

Chiriches is going to stay. He likewise has been injured for a few weeks and I think he has a big part to play at this club. I rate him as a defender and AVB clearly did and I think Sherwood is likely to back him.

Soldado hasn't really got going yet and under AVB wasn't getting the service he needed. His confidence was clearly knocked by a lack of goals and so that's bound to have a knock on effect under Sherwood's tenure. I would like to see the club hold out and give him more of a chance and I think they will. If they're going to let either of our c.£30m signings go it's more likely to be Lamela.

For me Chadli and Capoue are perhaps the only two at risk of being let go here.
