Football Banter Thread

http://www.nonleagueday.co.uk/index.html

Non-League Day tomorrow. Loads of clubs offering deals on entry prices, etc. In London "There will be special events, reduced entry charges and other offers – Dulwich Hamlet are offering a pay what you like deal for their match against Hampton and Richmond Borough, Hayes and Yeading (ground sharing at Maidenhead United) are offering concession to all PL season ticket holders for all league games, Kingstonian are offering half price entry to members of any sport club and Staines are offering free entry to Brentford Season Card Holders."

It's a great chance for football fans who are used to watching Premier League games to catch a match local to you. As my team have the weekend off, I'd initially planned on going to watch Dagenham & Redbridge, but it looks like the mighty Tower Hamlets FC are playing round the corner!

A few mates and I are going to Lewes vs Wingate and Finchley.

Nice, apparently quite a fee of the South Coast Bees fans are popping along to that. We've got a loanee at D&R and the Tower Hamlets game doesn't look like it's on now, so Victoria Road it is for me.

What? Like, what does Luke Shaw not knowing who Tony Adams is have anything to do with his footballing ability or his development?

So Platini says that if Ribery chooses to retire from the French national team he will ban him for 3 games with Bayern (link).

Seems like a pure and simple abuse of power to me. Who is Platini to decide when players decide to end their international careers? Is he planning to ban Lampard and Gerrard as well? This is not the kind of scenario that UEFA should have control over players club careers...

Seems to me like this would not have been said were Platini not French, or if Euro 2016 wasn't being held in France. Foul character all round IMO.

On my iPad so can't easily translate... but shirley that's said in jest... :o

Doesn't sound like it:

Q: Philipp Lahm has ended his career after the tournament, Franck Ribery has stated that he no longer wants to play for France. Do you understand?

Platini: But I have zero understanding. It is not the decision of the players, whether they come to the national team. This is the decision of the coach. If there is collusion between Lahm and Löw, the Germany coach no longer nominated him, that's one thing. But basically it is not the decision of Lahm, but Loew.

Q: And Ribery ?

Platini: This is again a very different situation. Franck Ribery can not simply decide whether he plays for France or not. If coach Didier Deschamps invites him, he must come to the national team. This is defined in the FIFA Statutes. If he does not come, he is suspended for three games with Bayern Munich. I do not understand him anyway. He is French, the EM 2016 will take place in France, not in Poland. Since he has yet to play.
