Football Fixtures 27-28th September *Spoilers*

I would actually have too agree about Kuyt. I think so far this season he's been playing really well... well, for him that is.

As someone said earlier, he's good when we play teams that like to keep the ball, but when it comes to trying to break down a defense, he just isn't good enough.

Not at all. As usual he ran his ******* off and suprisingly kept possesion really well too. He also kept Lescott back in Everton's half (who caused us problems last season) for the best part of the game.
I disagree.

He gave the ball away a countless amount of times, his passing had a 20% success rate, selling players short constantly and when he did find a player he played it behind. When receiving the ball he was slow and cumbersome, slowing our quick attacks right down.

The only good thing he did all game was create space for the first goal. It was his total lack of speed and finishing ability that luckily enabled Torres to score the 2nd goal, he's shouldn't be credited for that. Lescott has been **** so far this seasons so that's no biggie.

I'm staggered so many in here think he was our best player, I can name loads who all played better.

Just wondering if Everton is going to appeal that red card.

Based on the John Terry precedent. The FA's rule cannot turn a red into a yellow but can struck the card off totally. Since video evidence shows that tackle does not warrant a red card (it was a straight red, not 2 yellows), he should get his red card removed surely !

Fair point - I hope Moyes at least tries (although I would have thought we would have heard about it by now if he was)

How long does a team have to begin the appeal process?

They have put in an appeal, doubt it will be successful though. Cahill's challenge could certainly be percieved as serious foul play the way he lunged in with 1 foot and brought the other leg around in a scissor type tackle and hacked Alonso down (which Terry's couldn't). Also there are lots of rumours that he got sent off for discent rather than the tackle itself and if that's the case then there's surely no chance of it getting removed with the respect campaign going on.

I have not heard anyone say anything about desent.

Cahill's was a tackle, leg wasn't high, 1 leg, the other leg just went through because it's attached to his body, its not like he could left it behind. It's not dangerous nor did it look it, nor did the Liverpool players complained about it being a bad tackle. Every one in the press was shocked that he got a red.

Terry's was a rugby tackle, and truth be told, if he wasn't the England Captain he wouldn't have got away with it. Imagine if Vinnie Jones did that, it would've stayed red.

Well there have been plenty of rumours about it beng for discent. I mentioned earlier in the thread that Riley called him over a couple of times which Cahill ignored (and then told him to **** off) at that point Riley walked over to him and showed him the red. You also have to remember that it was Riley who got in trouble for not sending off Cole vs Spurs last year, which set off all this respect stuff.

As for Cahill's tackle. It certainly would be a harsh red but equally it was worse than your average yellow card tackle. Watch the reverse angle of it and you'll see Cahill deliberately bring his right leg around to hack Alonso down and that's why it could go down as serious fould play and why i doubt he'll get away with it.

As for the stuff about Terry, you sound a little bitter. Terry's challenge was never a red in a million years. It wasn't serious foul play nor did he stop a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Cahill's wasn't red either, nor stpped a clear goalscoring opportunity or serious foul play.

In a way Terry's was more serious in terms of serious foul play - hands round another player, rugby style.....it has more intent, no question. At least Cahiill can argue that it was a good old fashion tackle, Terry can claim that it was a lame rugby tackle.

In terms of goal scoring opportunity, Terry's was worst again, the attacker was on his way, Terry might not be the last man in defence but the other defender wasn't close nor way back towards the box. Cahill did his in the middle of the field surrounded by everyone.

My point is that Everton has a open and shut case as JT clearly set a precedent.

Firstly im not saying Cahill should have been sent off, if it was for the challenge rather than the discent then it's harsh but i don't think it will be withdrawn.

You simply can't argue that Terry (by the letter of the law) should have been sent off. It was a cynical foul and worthy of only a yellow. Cahill's on the other hand could have been percieved as serious foul play because his tackle was 2 footed and the way he hacked Alonso down with his trailling leg was dangerous.

We all know they don't like withdrawing red cards and the only reason some ever do get withdrawn (like Terry) is where it's clear cut that a mistake has been made. Cahill's challenge is open to interpretation imo and that's why he won't get away with it.

I don't think it will work out that way. As i said, there is no way, by the letter of the law, that Terry deserved to be sent off, Cahill's on the other hand could have been percieved as serious foul play (even if it was harsh) and they'll hide behind that like they usually do and it will more than likely stand imo.

And if it was for the discent then i doubt he's got any chance.
