Football **Spoilers** 4th-7th November

Take it from the responses that Liverpool were even luckier this time than in the first leg?

Gilly did you watch the same first leg as everyone else? I thought it was pretty even...

In fairness we have ridden our luck over the last couple of seasons, but tonight we deserved a draw at the very least!

The ref had an absolute mare. Fortunately for him he made so many wrong decisions they sort of balanced out.

Didn't look like it wanted to go in for us today. Played some nice stuff but all our chances were either falling a foot behind, ahead or too high for our player. Torres can't come back soon enough.

Thought the same after Benfica knocked us out the other year, i think we missed out big time with Simao. The guy is class.
Given the current score Liverpool were even luckier than they seemed in the first leg.

You said you only watched about 10 mins of that game

We should have finished them off in the first half and had the best chance of the match in the 2nd, and also had a goal wrongly ruled out (like they did).

Dominated the game without scoring then got an undeserved pen 4 minutes into stoppage time. Definitely deserved something out of the game but not in the way it turned out.

Gotta say I actually feel for Atletico. I thought they played the European away game very well. OK we should have made something of our possesion but that was seriously lucky for us. Although we should have had a penalty earlier, that was never a penalty.

The ref has been woeful today, and once again its the officials that take the headlines.

Only saw the first half, but that was pretty strange by itself. The ball was almost permanently in Atletico's half, in or around their penalty area, and yet it was the away side that got the first goal. Yet, on the other hand, they were simply far more clinical with that chance, and the build-up to it, while 'Pool simply huffed about and couldn't create anything clear cut, thanks to some frankly terrible passing.

Even with the decision at the end the ref still gave more decisions wrongly in Athletico's favour throughout the game, people obviously don't like to mention those :p

Rubbish, you had a corner which shouldn't have been, a dangerous free kick that shouldn't have been, and at the end of the game you were given a penalty that shouldn't have been.*

Athletico didn't have anywhere near that.

*And if that was a penalty, then Mascherano's handball in the box at the Liverpool end certainly was.

You might have dominated possession, but at the end of the day you were fairly toothless up front.

Gerrard fouls the defender then rolls on the floor with his arms in the air, which apparently is a penalty..

Gerrard fouls the defender, by charging into him as he clears it, Referee awards a penalty.

Not only was it not a foul on Gerrard, it was a dangerous challenge by Gerrard.

Did you guys all miss the stonewall pen in the 2nd half and a very decent shout for a pen in the first half, not to mention the countless corners etc. That decision for the pen was about the first decision that went out way.

Of course they didn't, they just conveniently choose not to mention it so there point is not invalidated.

We also should have had 2 corners and a clear pen for a hand ball. Masch had the ball blasted at him from less than 5 yards away so that could never have been deemed as intentional, don't know of any contentious free kicks in our favour either.

Carragher and Masherano both hand balled in the box in as much a fashion as the Atletico player.

So they should have had two.

The one where the ball was volleyed against the Atletico players arm from 2yards and handball was given.
If thats handball, then so is Masherano in the box.

As I said Masch had the ball blasted at him from point blank range, it hit Carraghers arm after deflecting off his body, neither of them were intentional. The Athletico player had at least 2 seconds to get his hand out of the way before he made contact with the ball.

My tuesday Champions league predictions:

Anorthosis Famagusta 1-2 Inter Milan
Barcelona 5-1 Basle
CFR Cluj-Napoca 2-1 Bordeaux
Liverpool 2-1 Atletico Madrid
Marseille 2-1 PSV
Roma 1-2 Chelsea
Sporting 3-1 Shakhtar Donetsk
Werder Bremen 2-1 Panathinaikos

I'm damn glad i didn't bet tonight, i was going to put a tenner on a multiple bet as well.

If the ref makes a bad decision he shouldn't rescind that by giving the other team a free kick in a similar scenario, especially considering one results in a mere free kick and the other in a penalty.
