For any Widescreen TFT owners, a quick check please

Hey Baddass and co, i've just got my pair of hanns g ws monitors going via dvi and the option for nvidia aspect scaling is in the nvidia control panel!

I'll have to experiment and see if it works, but other hanns g owners said it wasn't there.

This is very good news indeed if it does work.

Mine has always shown nvidia aspect scaling up in DVI mode, but it just doesn't work. The screen displays an "out of range" or "no signal" message.

However, I did notice the following on my setup: If you set your screen resolution to 1024x768 before trying aspect scaling and then activate it, the screen will size will be reduced... but still stretched to a widescreen ratio.

Is everyone clear where to find these options? Just incase you don't know, right click on your desktop -> properties -> settings tab -> advanced -> (your graphics card tab, mine says GeForce 6600 GT) -> nView display settings -> right click on your monitor(s) -> device adjustments.

I have tried the centered output on 1024x768 on my Dell 2007WFP and it works fine and looks normal. That fix aspect ratio scaling works fine to on 1280x1024, I can't believe I had forgotten how crappy 5:4 gaming looks compared to 16:10 !! lol.

Diam!!! All this pixel mapping hey? I don't think my laptop screen would do it so I just play games in a window but pixel mapped would be better.

So does this mean that if I buy a monitor like say the Dell2407 then I can get away with having a quite mediocre graphics card? What's the minimum graphics card(nvidia pref) I would look at to make games run smooth at 1280x1024. Cheers?

Ah I see, come end of september when I make my rig I will only be able to afford one card worth bout £150. Looking at the prices of the cards at the moment looks like I'll be able to run them then, at least until Crysis comes out. All I want to run is Half-Life Eps! Cheers!

just thought i'd see how updates are looking and noticed the 'Y' for software on WS2025 which is good news for me as i originally posted on page 1 and it was a 'N'.

I had seen the option in my Nvidia setting but didnt try it as i assumed it just wouldn't work, i'll try it when i get home in 3 hours!

Any chance we can get this updated for some of the newer widescreen TFTs that have come out?
Wow, thread revival.
You'll have to give Baddass a poke and he can update the list.

There have been a few nvidia driver updates since this thread but the aspect scaling still doesn't work on my hanns g monitors.
I'm keen to know what the ati drivers have in the way of software aspect scaling...

Having been running widescreen monitors which don't support either software or hardware scaling for a while now, i can say that it really doesn't matter, playing non widescreen games stretched to widescreen is a non issue, it looks fine.

Edit: There is a list on Baddass's website, which looks like it may be more up to date than this thread.

not in the origonal list, but I have an LG L194WT and it doesn't have this as an option in the menu, but a couple of clicks in the ati control panel and the jobs a goodun.

Hi mate, yeah that's my site :D i will update the monitor list there actually as well, and maybe just link to the table of them all in the sticky, nice plan :)
