For the gym rats

Had a good session down the gym today, managed to bench 130kg - that's the first bench gain since Christmas.

Will soon have to find a gym with extensive weights as I am maxing out most of the machines...

excellent :D
are you benching on a machine?

Yes I am, for convenience, but its 140kg max so I'm going to have to find a gym with an extensive freeweight selection to continue soon...

I know a posh one in Docklands that I can get a decent discount on membership for

be careful to not just whack 130kg on a barbell then, while you will get relatively close, it might take a few weeks to get used to additional stabilisers being used to move it.

machines have a habit of making you think you are stonger than you are. i can max out the shoulder press machine in the gym (100kg) or 8 reps, be damned if i can do 5 reps at 70kg with a barbell though!!

i bet the gym in the docklands has some tasty women in there, go check it out :p

Bench - 160kg january - 200kg
leg press - 650kg january - 800kg
Deadlift - 280kg january - 320kg

Made some little gains i can do more reps on the bench press and i have gone up 25kg on the leg press and 10kg more on the dead lift :) slowly but surely.

Good advice!

completely shocked myself today, was working away most of this week and hadnt been to the gym until yesterday.

sat:
back and tris (including 2 bench dips + 25kg x 3x10)

this morning my tris felt well worked from yesterday, but i had chest and bis ahead of me. was not expecting much from my BB flat bench.

sun:
chest and bis

few flat bb bench warmups then into 4x6 - 100kg. tris held up pretty well, bench form must have been good!
not done a decent 100kg set since the accident, so well happy :D

Well done mate, great lifts :) I bet you feel like a million quid right now :D

not really, had no food in at home so have suffered from a crap post workout meal.

feel good about the sets though yeah :D

You're just like me. It really REALLY winds me up when there's nothing in, I just have to go and stock up.

How's the other lifts coming along?

I've just finished the ninth week of my 5x5 routine and have improved my lifting quite nicely. I'm considering adding a tenth week as I think I can get more out of my bench press, deadlift and row all of which were relatively easy last week.

3RM Before Christmas
Bench - 120K
Deadlift - 190K
Shoulder Press - 80K
Squat - 160K

3RM Now
Bench - 132.5K
Deadlift - 205K
Shoulder Press - 87.5K
Squat - 190K

Well done mate :) I'd be interested to hear a short review of the 5x5 coming from yourself, how you've found it on the body, mind etc, that's only if you have time. Either way congratulations and keep pumping!

I've got a journal at MP here. It's a long read but I've gone in to quite a lot of detail about how my body has felt during and after each workout as well as how I've coped with each of the lifts as they've progressed throughout the routine.

terribly, i am being overly cautious about my back, which is restricting me lots.
tried to do some decent DLs last week, best i could manage (for 5 reps) was 110, which is dissapointing but understandable.

i really need to cut :/

Restricting but as you've said completely understandable. It always takes time to come back but it's the waiting that really tests your resolve. Keep plugging away (as I know you will :) ) and it'll all be worthwhile.

As for cutting, I find summer is a great time to cut. Get it right and you're laughing. Have you had much experience cutting?

other than the 3 stone i lost from xmas last year (lots of cardio and a very restricted diet before getting back into the weights again), none.

i have been bulking for 28 years (since born :D ).

a cut while training will be interesting. im planning on doing the same weights but loads more cardio, coupled with a diet that should see me on about 2500 calories a day (ish).

dropping 4" on the waist would be a good result, along with the rest of the obvious fat loss that would come with it. also really need to get a tan!

will be getting the wife to take some pics soon (not to be shown, just for me) :]

Just reading some MP forums and you say you're from St Austell, where abouts do you train mate?
