Ford PATS programming

About 50 quid instead of 80

You think a locksmith will supply a flip key/fob, cut it and program it for £50?

Certainly no one locally to me will.

for mike,

if you dont want to use your bestest buddy local ford dealer try finding an independant with a BlueStreak Iflash or a x431 from launch, might be worth googling to see if snap on ever added this option to the solus as they kept promising as it would give you a much greater choice of places to try

That is the kind of info I need, thanks.

He dont care but it is a bit off, what you ****ing about over 80 quid for anyway.

You bring these drama threads on yourself.

If he doesn't care, why has he spent three pages trying to grill me for doing it?

It is a matter of principle, and I'm not in the habit of throwing money away.

Sure, looks like it.

Well they are, because I;

A. Don't have a key for a car that isn't mine.

B. Don't care if the buyer might be nervous, I'm not selling it to them, and no one is forcing them to buy it.

C. Don't see it as morally wrong as it was mine to do with what I saw fit. If I'd run it over that morning, would you guys suggest I (or rather, if it was you) should pay for a new one for the dealer? Or tell them there is only one key and be done with it? The latter? Yeah, that's what I thought.

I wouldnt bother with a Ford flip top key if all you want is a spare and are on an economy drive, just get a generic key programmed which is about 50 quid.

I wanted a flip key. Plus the key in your link is the wrong type.

oh mike, bit of googling turned up A&A Security in Kettering supposedly do the programming for £25 or so

and just a thought as i'm a bit out of touch having been away from ford for a good 5 years now but can you not self program as long as you have 2 keys?

oh i take it you have checked you have the right transponder yes?

2 key method doesn't work on the MK2 Focus, and yes, all of this type of flip key has the correct transponder.

I will be sure to ring round the local locksmiths and see if anyone has the kit, but my 'usual' didn't :/

Not having two keys will give you a right headache if your car ever gets stolen. That's not pub talk either - I've seen insurers really do some digging when someone only coughs up one key.

I've even seen insurers do forensics on a pair of keys!

The Leon only came with one key as the other one had had a door slammed on it, and it wouldn't fit in the lock/barrel. The fob still worked though, but I totally forgot about it when I picked the car up.
I then ordered a new key at the dealer when I brought it home.

Shock horror - it was never stolen

Talk about an over reaction. I wonder if the response here would have been equally excessive had it been another user..

Slightly different as you had/have both original keys. In this case it is irrelevant if one of them couldn't start the car due to other circumstances (it being broken).

I am slightly tempted to trade my car in but keep the gearbox, after all it is mine and I may want to keep it.....

Doesn't everybody keep a key from a car they've sold on? Thought it was the norm thing to do, much like a trophy? Anyway here's a pic of a key I kept from the wifes old Micra that I sold on a few years ago.

Sorry for the bad quality pic but it was taken with a webcam that I prised out from lid of a laptop that I sold on to some other sucker.
