Forgetting your phone

It's a sad state of affairs really. I was at a small soft play area that is free in a shopping centre. While I was watching my son play and responding to him having a good time, every other parent was just glued to their phone completely ignoring their children.

On the train during my commute, it's a very surreal experience looking down the carriage to see 95% of people in that same hunched over phone position. I'll listen to music on my phone while on the train, but I don't ever feel the need to be glued to my screen.

This is really sad and worrying :(

A lot of children are going to grow up with serious issues.

I really don't like the direction society is headed.

If my son is playing and is not near me I am watching him all the time and phone is away to make sure he is ok and in case he needs a hand I am there to help. Got to keep an eye on kinds if there playing as you never know what could go on while your not paying attention

The only annoying thing when I leave my phone at home is I have to listen to Radio 1, then realize what a load of tripe it is. Me and my wife are more than capable to live without them, when we use them in restaurants its normally because we are googling something as part of the conversation.

Whilst I agree that it's a bit sad, it's their choice to do so. If that's how they want to spend their evening then so be it! I don't see it as any different to reading the paper at breakfast.

I just can't see the point of going out of your way to sit with people, only to then not actually engage with said people. You might as well sit at home with a microwave meal and Whatsapp people to your hearts content.

This is something that really winds me up. You've got to feel sorry for the kids which are constantly saying mum, mum, mum, dad, dad, dad and being basically ignored, then told off for getting upset/angry.

I've never forgotten my phone, I don't use it much at work, it's just for emergencies and entertainment, reading material for the daily commute, the alternative is I stare in silence at the same scenery every day and listen to the stupid conversations randoms have on trains.

Left mine at home from time to time, I don't miss it whilst at work and the only draw back is not having Waze in the car.

I always notice my surroundings. Then I take my phone out and snap a photo of said interesting surrounding.

Forgetting your phone whilst sat on the loo or taking a bath is quite something, though.

First thing in the morning when I go for a dump I take my phone -switch it on to see if there is anything there- Nothing - turn it off -finish dump -wipe phone with dettol wipe -put phone back on desk ready for tomorrow morning. :D

I made the mistake of leaving my phone at home  a whole day at work without it!
It felt like I had lost a limb, at break not having my phone allowed me take notice of my surrounding.
Everyone's glued to their phones, lol. Zero conversation going on! I ended up go back to work earlier as I was bored, pretty sad! I am now thinking of giving it up for a week to see how productive I become as I have lots of jobs (DIY) I can do, but have put off.

Thoughts? Are you a champion procrastinater?

I didn't have mine for 4 days whilst it got repaired. I'm not a big social media user so I didn't miss it per se but the weirdest feeling was I use my phone as a watch, alarm, radio and if I want to know something a quick Google will find it out so in that respect it was a weird.

Phone is on silent 24/7. I use it for making a few calls, texts, work emails and on rare occasions, web browsing when traveling. However, I'm not registered on any social media sites. I often rib pals who constantly pull out their mobiles at bars and restaurants. They think I'm an anti social deviant!?!?
Same. Once you get rid of the social apps and turn off all notifications it's not really a problem anymore.

This is true. Although I try to leave it on the table now. Sitting too long on the loo gives me the ole arse grapes.

I do often wonder how people get to 4 or 5 hours screen on time. Honestly I don't get that. I don't think I can leave my phone somewhere as I use it in the car or bike, so would realise before I left, but I only have around an hour screen on time a day at most.

Some people'll break into sweats and shakes as they won't be able to check facebook or the app for the latest big deal reality TV program
