Forgot how bad job searching was :(

I uploaded my CV onto CWJOBS.com on Friday late on. Today I have had a total explosion of recruiters ringing me, around 11+ different people. Absolutely unbelievable....

The phone started at 7 30 and comtinued till around 6pm. Rather difficult with me being at work....

Perhaps something wiol come of this, been a while since I've last changed jobs.

Always promising when this happens. Lets hope they all know what they're doing and that they're the type to keep in touch!

Cross posting from Jobs thread but - Long shot, it's not for everyone, but if anyone is interested in a side project dev job for equity in our startup, check it out:

Can be done as a second job at the moment, but we're starting to ramp up. Give us 6-12 months and that should change. If you're looking for something with serious potential in the ed tech industry (check out our other posts on the site, we're just starting to build for HarvardX and edX) and would like to share the winnings. Just let me know.

I was doing Mobile Engagement - the next step really is feedback without the need to engage with the user also providing behaviour response and business intelligence feedback.
There are a set of companies that provide non-interactive feedback mechanisms for fraud detection, advertising feedback (heat maps over advertising, mood and engagement on notification) etc.

Nice, this is one thing we were tempted to branch out on with our application as we could use the barebones of this and provide a site (e-commerce etc) and a set of instructions to the user through our app interface and get facial reactions / emotions back to report on with each task, as well as overlaying the screenshot of what the user was doing at the time.
We don't have the resource really to do that side of it, although there is good money in the mobile e-commerce space with a massive amount of businesses trying to ensure their sites have optimal UI for users.

We take the data in a different route really, giving context to the emotional response in the learning / engagement side of things, adapting that content to best suit as well as providing feedback to the content creator, enabling them to better their content.

If you get sorted (I can't guarantee a regular income right now, so it is second job territory, currently :p ) and you'd be interested in an interesting project, let me know!

I have had one extremely positive interview, which swiftly followed a phone interview, I have 2 phone interviews this week and 2 actual interviews later in the week. Some as far as Leeds others in Manchester City Centre or about 20 minutes away.

Slightly varying roles from what is heavy networking to more Linux based "DevOps" style role and salaries with as much as 12k difference ( Unfortunately the lowest salary happens to be a really good company to work for and is literally 5 minutes walk from my apartment )

I will see how this week turns out but I have a feeling I may get an offer tomorrow but it is as far away as an hours drive, I also have yet to have any of my other interviews. Time will tell, but not a terrible position to be in considering everything I have gone through in the last 9 months.

The thought of waking up tomorrow for yet another 2.5+ hour commute over the M62 to beyond York makes me feel a bit ill, a new job can't happen soon enough.

Will try to keep this short and sweet.

Was offered a new job a little over a month ago. Shortly after I handed in my notice.... 3 months notice. The new employer is aware of this and are prepared to wait.

Problem is I'm bored of bloody waiting. It was boredom that prompted the job search in the first place.

My official leaving date is in the middle of Fed. However I've been told that I might be able to leave Mid/Late Jan. What would happened if I just quit?

You may perhaps not get a reference or very simple one from your employer?

Have you ever done anything to warrant a bad reference? Other than that I don't see any risks really. Are you prepared if you're out of work until Feb?

Uploaded my CV to monster tonight, dreading the usual barrage of calls from recruiters offering completely unrelated jobs, but hopefully a couple come good.

Where I am is fine, but it's a company that feels like it's going nowhere so things like promotions and pay rises aren't really going to be offered any time soon. Shame :(

They could theoretically take you to court if they felt they could prove that it led to a loss of income. In reality though it'd be a black mark against your name (think about if you run in with this people again) or it might be added to any references that were requested.

Your best option is to try and negotiate it down.

Not a job per se, but last couple of days I've been given a start date to join the Royal Air Force. This is providing i am successful at the final 2 stages of the application process. Proud wouldn't begin to cover it :p

.

Even if I know the answer, I take time to reflect (a minute maybe), it shows a lot more confidence than just starting to talk, esp if you're going to waffle

That sounds barmy, I wouldn't dare make them sit there for any length of time in silence, (especially when they counter the question like you say) I always feel a good conversation is a much better way for them to gauge you as a person who would fit into the company etc.

Prep before hand, imo and you won't need to sit an ponder the questions, you should have a general scope of what they will ask if you research the job/business.
I've taken "notes" in before, mainly just questions I want to ask in bullet points, and written answers down when given. Usually works for me.

The new employer made reference requests shortly after I accepted the job. They've received references from both my current and previous employers.

I guess so.

Just getting a little frustrated within doing almost nothing lol. Friday I was told to leave because I had nothing to do... Think I only done about 1 hours work on Friday

Urghh,

back on the job hunt again.

On the plus side got an interview, on the downside there are tests yet again.

I hate tests before an interview, I would not mind so much if they were high paying roles. I did a full day assessment for a band 2 in the nhs last year for example.

The only positive is this time the test is post interview so I won't have a mini adrenaline dump during the interview like my most recent one. Will just be in the test instead haha.

Sigh

Possible sticky situation.

Handed in my notice almost 2 months ago. I've recently been informed that I can leave towards the end of this month. Good news. Today (about an hour after receiving this news). I receive a phone call from a recruiter regarding a position I was put forward for about 2/3 months ago. It turns out that the recruiter's client has only just back to them.

To cut a long story short they now want to interview me. Problem is that I cannot get anymore time off. I've explained this to the recruiter. Who then suggested they might be able to do a late or telephone interview. Which is good.

So what if I'm offered this new position.... Am I able to simply retract job offer I accepted a couple months back?

Depends on if you signed a contract I imagine.

I have an interview this week, with a test after.

Just been re reading through the e-mail and I have a informal meeting before the interview as well. Seems ott for 20k per year.

Pretty tired of the interview merry go round atm.

I signed the contract/accepted their offer a while back.

Is this informal meeting taking place on the same day as the interview?

Hmm not sure then it may depend on their policy or terms of the contract. There will likely be a way out of it, sorry I cannot help further!

Yep the meeting is before the interview, then the test is last.
Test seem's short at least. My concern about the meeting is, using up all the questions I have prepared for the interview during the meeting.

Generally not looking forward to it, interviews don't normally bother me neither.

I have a job interview tomorrow for a premier league club :o

I am been in my current role (Microsoft) since graduating 5yrs ago, so a little rusty on the old interview scenario.

Odd question: I always have stubble, very finely trimmed - year round! as after shaving I have bad, redskin so I avoid the redness.

Would you always clean shave for an interview, or risk turning up like a red dot?
