Forgot how bad job searching was :(

They will have similar restrictions s in terms of software, of will need to be vetted and approved (security / vulnerability wise) I would have thought.

Yep I thought this also, on the plus side one of the questions was about statistical software I had experience in.

So I imagine they have some!

Wow I got the job!

It's not really sinked in yet, I would have had to get promoted 3 times in the NHS to get to this point.

Wow. Funny how things go, I felt I had done poor in this interview, last few interviews were excellent yet I get this one.

Still a bit OMG.

Sent my CV in for some jobs yesterday, call back straight away but as I was at work, couldn't answer. Called the recruiter back after work, had a chat about the jobs and my CV etc. and said how I can't speak during the day due to work, all good, he understands, will send me job specs right after the call.....

Still no job specs and he's tried calling twice today whilst at work so far and then sent an email asking if I can do a phone interview on Mon or Tues at 3pm...

I fear I'm going to be getting lots of this now I've decided to have a proper look around and started to send my CV out for roles I find interesting, fun times. Still, plenty of jobs about which fit my CV/career path though which is nice to see.

I went through the exact same situation. I had spoken to this recruiter one evening and he said he would get back in touch with me. He asked me when the most convenient time was to call to which I replied 'any time after 5pm'.

For the next couple of days he repeatedly tried to phone during me work and tried to get me to do phone interviews when I was working.

Eventually told him to just forget it.

Recruitment agencies have got significantly worse and worse.

As above, i have told them time and time again only available to chat after 17-15 yet they still phone and get on there high horse when unavailable.

I like it when you get the fob off from them instead of them being honest and saying "your not suitable for the roll as the skillset I have been told to look for, is not yours" which is fine btw sometimes your not a match.

That annoyed from one recruiter i sent a stinking email to the MD who i have worked with in the past and gave him what for. It cost the new recruit his bonus, quite a result :)

Recruitment agents are up-there with Estate agents in the leeching off the world stakes.

Great news, congrats.

I agree with that. The agencies I use to recruit have been getting progressively worse to the point where I only use them to post the advert and receive questions - I answer all the questions now.

The amount of people who have turned up for an interview and they had no idea what it was for is unbelievable. The first few I thought, wow these people really don't care, then It happened more and more until I found out the agency in question literally were just giving the absolute basic info.

yup, the omg job spec that doesn't materialise and the stupid linkedin request - get me the interview and send me the company job spec that has not been made up by the agent..

if i know the company i can research and be prepared.. otherwise it's the agent's fault.

I've been having fun with this...I'm looking at other jobs and so far I've only contacted one recruiter as I'm not too fussed and it's generally quite a lot of hassle. Anyway, this one recruiter has put me forward for two roles after explaining them to me, this has resulted in a couple of phone interviews. Within the phone interviews I say what I was told by him and then ask what the role really entails, often it's very different. The best was being told "Yeah he lives on the Isle of Wight and alternates between being there and being in Bristol", first thing the guy says to me when I have the chat "I'm on the Isle of Man but the company and job are in Bristol", when I said about the Isle being wrong he said he'd have strong words with the recruiter. :D

Oh and he was meant to send job specs for both jobs on Friday evening, I didn't get anything until I pushed again when he phoned on Sat as it'd be kind of handy to have those...

I've cleared both phone interviews fine, have one face to face booked in and another pending the result of a dev task I need to complete. However, I'm being pushed and bullied by the recruiter and despite me only having been looking for less than a week I'm already close to telling him where to go.

Being in software I explained on both phone interviews and to the agent that this week is release week which means I'm tied up in the office and can't get time off for interviews but can next week, both companies seemed fine with that. This morning I was asked by the agent when I could do a face to face with one of them and said with work how it is, next Monday is earliest. He then pushed and pushed so I've had to agree to an out of hours one mid week this week. This means I can't be in a suit so can't set as good an impression as I'd like and as it's after work I'll be tired too. Not ideal at all and I expressed my concerns, however "due to your four week notice" he's pushed it for this claiming the company are concerned. Given four weeks is standard across the board and I'm already employed and the company know all this I expect it's more lies from him. *sigh*

Still, plus side I guess, at least I'm getting interviews quickly although I'm not fussed how long it takes to find a new position, much more looking for the sake of it than the need.

Getting fed up now of rejection after rejection without a bit of feedback! Well onto the NATS applications, hopefully I'll have more luck with that!

Well, it's only been a week and I haven't even had my first appointment yet, but I'm already experiencing the hell that is the Job Centre and all that goes with it.

Considering their job should be to help other people get jobs, they appear to have a complete disgust for everyone they speak to and are unwilling to be civil at any level. I was really worried that as soon as I became redundant and started to sign on (to get my stamp paid) I would fall into the abyss and join the great unwashed that are the unemployed (as many people see them) - and I can feel it happening.

I don't care it they get moaned at on a daily basis, it's part of the job and I know what it's like. You still remain civil and helpful. Sure, if things go onto the next level you do something about it, but you don't treat every person with equal contempt. What makes it even worse is that there's nothing that one can do. Complain and they'll close ranks and you'll end up being the one in the wrong!

I've been speaking to two of my old work mates who were also made redundant and they're having similar experiences. It's shocking. I had hoped all the horror stories I've read were isolated incidents, but I fear not.

I've got my first interview this afternoon and I'm really not looking forward to it. I could do without their 'help' in finding a job. I'm perfectly capable of doing it on my own and hopefully they'll see that and leave me alone, but I won't hold my breath.

I love the "oh, they haven't got back to you? You probably haven't got any further then..." line. Makes me want to kick someone right in the ****. I don't want to work for you anyway, **** heads.

They won't leave you alone and will be of absolutely no help. Kind of frustrating, I'm clearly doing something wrong as I haven't even managed an interview in 7 weeks but as far as they are concerned my CV is perfect and they offer no advance on how to do things differently!

Sadly you need to report in weekly or whatever. However, there is nothing stopping you doing your own applications and putting this on the report sheet.

I had no help from them in getting a job, they didn't even take a CV.

Is there any way of a 23 year getting funding from somewhere for a short course (theres a few engineering courses that are £1500 for like a 10 day thing which gets a NVQ level 2 and obviously experience) but as i'm employed and over 18 i have to pay for them, and when i've looked there's a 24+ Learning loan but nothing i can find for my age! so frustrating.

Annoyingly I'm finding I'm an inbetweener.. recruiters and the majority of HR bods don't understand the expertise enough to deviate from specific words to search from.

You're either 100% technical.. or your 100% commercial.. I'm both for the very good reason that software product management requires it..
