Formula Boinc 2017

This is no fun. Some peeps are getting tasks, but most are not. Boo. Poor project choice for a race. (sadly, many other upcoming projects will be poor choices as well.) May the luck of the draw be with you!

Well we got third place. But it seemed hard work and wasn't enjoyable.

Next one is in only a few days time. For me it's starting to get tedious. They are coming round too fast to generate interest and mass participation. I doubt I'll be worrying about these sprints again unless it's a project I'm already interested in :(

not had anything running in the shed for a couple of days, the main server which hosts the net went down, I though it was just a corrupt OS but it seems the hdd was knackered, good news though is I installed on another hdd and it seems faster. the internet isn't dropping out when ever I try to down load pogs files and it shaved upto an hour of some NFS@home tasks. time to get the 64 core into a case shortly I think and then see if I can add a dual boot or 2 hdds with Linux / win server 2008 , if I can get windows working this time.

The latest sprint is Collatz Conjecture.

As I have no idea whatsoever that is supposed to be about, or what it is supposed to be achieving, I'm Out.

Collatz is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in mathematics. You can participate by downloading and running a free program on your computer.

Collatz Conjecture is based in Wood Dale, Illinois. It is a privately managed BOINC project attempting to disprove the Collatz Conjecture. The Collatz Conjecture project makes use of the parity sequence optimization and runs on Linux, Windows, and OS X and can utilize CPUs as well as AMD, nVidia, and Intel graphics cards.

Grrr didnt need a gpu project just now , will see how cpu gets on first

Which all makes no sense and seems to have no purpose other than something weirdly academic. So many of these maths types project are too theoretical looking for something which seems to have no goal or potential application. OK I suppose that original projects like Seti might also be seen by many as pointless, in terms of what would we do even if we did decide there was evidence of intelligent life somewhere out there, but at least for a mere mortal I can understand the project's goals, in the same way I can understand many of the astronomy type projects, the folding type apps and even many of the phyics type things.

This week's Sprint project is......."coding a website for PYTHON".

Thanks to TAAT's Ken g6 for this bit of humor:

They managed to work it out and <drum roll> Asteroids

Now they are starting to struggle to find projects for this thing. Asteroids can use CPU and Nvidia GPU not AMD GPU.

I've let mine go so I can top up with some more and have got 2 new tasks to do :(
Pending : Validated ratio is 4:1

At least we have started off in 1st place :D

Now that Asteroids have sorted their supply issue it's going to be a fight to the finish. TAAT have run off into the distance and could possibly switch off now. But it looks like a battle of the overclockers for second and third with us just having the upper hand. Any spare nvidia GPU capacity could make a lot of difference.
