Forum slowdown

We've been hit by an AI Bot swarm, over 60,000 of them hammering every thread on the site. Working on it now.
What a fun time to be alive. This sounds like something from a Hollywood movie.

I'm curious how you solve a problem like this. Given there would already be measures to deal with it that this bot swarm has bypassed?

Until Cloudflare become the single point of failure for the whole web.

They're a menace but luckily Cloudflare's AI Labyrinth helps a lot.

We just geo blocked Brazil and India where 99% of them were coming from.

These swarms generally all originate from specific data centers, so either identify the ip ranges and block them or just geo block the whole location.

You can employ more technical and specific targetting, but when a site being being taken down from what is a Ddos attack, the blunt approach is usually the best to get things working for the 99% again.

To be honest I am surprised class actions havent been launched against these companies because the damage they are doing is extremely costly.

What is the purpose behind these attacks...just griefing, or something else?
