Forza 6 (Apex) coming to PC near you, soon....

Not really a surprise given its free, and on a platform they don't currently have any MP infrastructure or existing code for.

They said during the summer updates would be coming, anyone come across any more info?
Is this going to be a proper finished title after Beta or only as like a free demo?

  • Car liveries from the community added
  • Wheel support
  • More improvements

    21:9 Support?

I think your tarring us all with your own brush there.

I've put plenty of time into it, getting 3 medals on all events including all the time limited showcase events.

Apex isn't meant to be a game, it's more a technical proof of concept around running the Forza engine on PC, plus a method to gauge interest.

Horizon 3 and FM7 will be full games.

I've been playing around with this after getting my GTX 1070, very impressive. It's very CPU bound - I should really OC my CPU further but for now I just set it to 60 HZ with V-Sync and it runs at a solid 60 FPS 99% of the time (1080p).

I had to play around with refresh rate and settings a bit though, disabled G-Sync and set my refresh rate to 60 Hz, then set the frame rate option in Forza to "60 V-Sync". Enabling G-Sync on top of this causes horrible stutter, but at a higher refresh rate it works fine (although limited by the CPU to around 70 to 90 FPS).

On max settings at 1080p, 60 FPS the GPU is barely hitting 30% usage and the fan was barely spinning, but I would think scaling this up to 4k might require more than a GTX 1070.

Just completed all the stages, might go back and re-do them all with the unlocked cars, really enjoyed it tbh, great looking game and not too arcadey, just how I remember FM3 on the xbax.

Looking forward to trying out the wheel support whenever that comes.

It's very CPU bound
I cant imagine it would be.

Anyways, for me, I haven't played it in a while because I could not get the violent stuttering under control. It'd be fine for a bit, but I'd almost always be affected by it at some point during a play session. I still think it's something to do with the memory management and nothing to do with performance, as it would happen randomly and in same situations that it was running fine before.

Racing games are often criticised for being CPU bound, and in this game it's very clear if you monitor CPU usage and GPU usage. I don't know what it is about this kind of game that causes this, but I would guess that the AI and physics engines are very advanced and will be eating up a lot of CPU cycles.

I've noticed a bit of stuttering too mainly when driving though the starting area of some tracks, but most of the time it's very smooth when limited to 60 FPS. It would be good to know your specs if you're having problems with stutter, and the game settings you're using.

It really has nothing to do with performance or settings. Nothing changes it and I've heard from plenty of others with wildly different setups experience it, too. And it's not just a 'bit' of stuttering, it can be quite drastic pauses.

And I'm still not sure how this game would be CPU bound when it runs at 60fps just fine on the XB1 with a far inferior CPU.

Your probably correct on the tarnish theory, I'm getting old and stuck in my ways. What I should have made clear I'll go back when it has wheel support (if ever) . Have a nice day.

Maybe the stuttering could just be due to the game still being in beta and they still have a lot of work to do to make it run smoothly on lots of different hardware. I could just be lucky that it runs well on my system, although I did notice one "drastic pause" of about a second, then it just continued as normal.

The thing about the XBOne (and all consoles) is that the developers know exactly what hardware the game is running on, so they can optimize it to run as fast as possible. They can get it up to 60 FPS even with a much slower CPU, but then on a PC if will be harder for them to match that performance because they have dozens of different CPUs and GPUs to optimise the code for, instead of one.

Edit: Actually when I first tried the game when I had only 8GB RAM and a GTX 660 (2GB) it stuttered horribly unless I lowered settings. The stutter could be caused by limitations in RAM and VRAM.

That is very likely the case. The stuttering was not at all indicative of any performance issues. They were too big to be frametime issues and I saw no drops in framerate during them, so memory definitely seems to be the most obvious culprit.

i got a fair bit of stutter with an i5@2500k @4.3ghz 8gb ram
upgraded to a i7 skylake 16gb ram
now its very smooth

It might be a good idea to monitor it with MSI Afterburner or something similar, so you can see how much RAM and VRAM are being used during a race. I think when I checked the VRAM used was around 3.5GB, and that number should be alarming for anyone with a GTX 970, for obvious reasons ;)

I don't get any stuttering [email protected] + 970 stock + 16gb ram but I'm only running on med, it seems very graphics intensive or just not very efficient.

I had major issues with the xbax controller where the game became unplayable after 1 race, but they seem to have resolved that and brought the controller support back.

Runs fine for me everything maxed out @1440p with i7 3770k and AMD 290 only AA is on dynamic and becuase how I need to record desktop mode for this DX12 title I do lose around 10/15fps

Looks like a typical experience playing any online racer to me, getting rammed by other people
