Foundation - TV Series (2021)

I have to say I found the foundation books a bit of a slog to get through (first 3 books, in a 'trilogy' hardback).

I certainly appreciated aspects of them, but found changing characters so frequently, with some characters essentially playing very similar narrative roles meant you never really connected to them.

Here I feel the visual medium may really help.

Yeah Asimov one of those authors where ideas and universe they occur in > storytelling/narrative pulling you along for the ride and someone else taking them into a different medium might make something cool out of it.

I'm so looking forward to this. I hope they don't mess it up. This was one of my favourite series of books as a child. It had passed me by that Lee Pace and Jared Harris are in it. This is going to be the series which gets me to subscribe to Apple TV.

Will be interesting to see how the books are interpreted as they were more focused on ideas than action, which would not make good TV. Been a while since I read the books, but they jump from epoch to epoch and focus on different areas each time could mean each series having to build each time/characters anew. It is an ambitious undertaking, or as Sir Humphrey would phrase it "Courageous"

This. I love Foundation but I don't think it'll be good as a TV show, the above series would work much better imo

I utterly loved the Foundation books I'm not optimistic about this but we'll see. It can't be any worse than "I, Robot"...

Watching the trailer it looks they're trying to shoehorn drama into something which was more of an intellectual argument about the inevitable decline of complex societies and not about flashy visuals and boom! Flash! Bang! Pompous bad guys with british accents and good ol' all-american heroes! Etc.

As excited about this as I am, I really want to see a series based on the Elijah Bailey/R. Daneel Olivaw books.

That would be awesome but dont' underestimate the potential for media magnates to make a mess of things.

I guess thats the difference with book and TV personally I was completely absorbed by the books I remember I spent an entire night reading Second Foundation because I simply couldn't put it down to turn in, one of the most memorable things I've ever read
