Foundation - TV Series (2021)

Really enjoying this. Agreed the pace is fine. Never read or listened to the books. I've just blitzed through the 9 main Ender-verse audiobooks, will look at starting these next. That series was fantastic btw, wonderful sci-fi.

Still enjoying it, but few silly things still.

To say that the Anacreon's had a very intricate revenge plan involving jump engines, kidnapping a high ranking Empire captain and stealing data/kidnapping specialists from Terminus, the fact they had no patrols around the geothermal field where their only ships were located, conveniently on top of an unstable depression in the ground seemed like a very stupid plot hole. Oh and leaving all their explosives just lying around in the open un secured.

But willing to overlook this for the moment.

I'm listening to the book and after a few hours I'm basically at episode 6. Which i just watched too.
The 2 have nothing in common except place names a few character names and the key plot points that are pretty much entirely derived differently to the book.

Feels more like game of thrones and Doctor who

Is Steven still going out free chairs?

Is this gripping and thrilling, slow burn but beautiful and well acted, or something else?

I wouldn't call it gripping and thrilling, it's definitely slow-burn, but also not that intruiging, it looks nice and the acting is ok. There's not a single compelling performance or carachter in it, but I've only seen 3 EPs, it's not bad by any means and I enjoy that it's not explosions and pew pew every two minutes and it's not lecturing either. I haven't read the books so have no pre-concieved ideas, I would say it is worth giving a chance for sure. I'm intruiged just enough to keep watching and will give it a few more EPS to see where it goes.

They do keep saying "math" every two minutes though which is incredibly irritating...

It's definitely a "binger" not a once a week show.

I would but he cannot predict such things, only things on a grander scale ;)

I know it's probably lazy to ask, but.
looked back in part of episode one and couldn't find the info.
I can't work out how the scientist where on trial and then suddenly on an adventure. What happened after the explosion and why are they on a 4yr trip?

Was there also something relevant to her waking from hyper sleep.

This is where the book and the TV series spilt.
Time jumps around a bit and it will cover most of the bits in between eventually.

Although I only have books to go by, I'm sure it's worth sticking with it if they get their 8 season deal

Empire didnt want to martyr them by executing them so instead exiled them off to the edge of the galaxy. They were on a 4 year trip as they were also punished by being locked out of various technologies including FTL.

They were travelling FTL, but just on a 'slow ship' rather than using the artificial singularity jump technology. Remember, Terminus was said to be 50k LY away, and doing that distance in ~4 years means they were travelling seriously in excess of c.

anyone else think the premise and start was kinda good, but after episode 2 it's basically been crap.

watched ep 7 last night before coming to that conclusion

the plots seem poor or just poorly written and acted, the casting isn't terrible but it's passable only thanks to jarrid harris and lee pace who don't get enough screen time

I don't see it being a series anyone will remember once it's over.

why is scifi nearly always done badly when back in the day they made some awesome scifi on a budget.. lets rely on CGI or what?

too many young actors for sure who just seem like random people grabbed from the street because someone found them attractive or thought they were photogenic.
rather more old school actors like ciaran hinds etc

I bet all the "good" actors studied classical acting and theatre, the new generations are pathetic imo
