FPS players: How many of you use the arrow keys to move ??

Arrow keys are easier anyway as if you get stuck you can just look at them & there's a big arrow telling you which way to go.

WASD don't work for me as I've got a scouse keyboard & it says W AAA instead. :(

^^Makes no sense^^ :confused::confused:

Unless you're a complete beginner to pc gaming, you shouldn't even have to look at the keyboard to know what buttons to press.

You should just get used to WASD like it's meant to be played and you wont risk missing out on any good games where you can't configure the keys or invert the mouse.

Haven't used the arrow keys since Jedi Outcast, where I needed to map the force powers to more convenient buttons. Didn't find it such an issue in the first Dark Forces game, I used the mouse wheel to scroll force powers and # to cast em, but in JO I remapped everything to centre around the TFGH keys - stuck with that config during the rise of WASD for years until I switched over, mainly to avoid remapping buttons on every new FPS I played.

Been playing games since pong/zx81/spectrum. I should just play with what I like playing with as I have always done? ps....my last post..not to be taken seriously...sarcasm...;)

Ah I remember the days when we used to play on the speccy with five keys in a row...up/down/left/right/jump...:cool::p

Used to play a lot of games on the BBC micro with A,Z as up and down. <> for left and righ and space bar to jump or fire.

It's all about stance really.....you're the average bloke who just gets on with things....everything spaced nicely...me...I'm more your feminine type with my mouse/arrow keys....arms close together...then you have the wasd butch type...arms far apart as if ready for ******* some poor bloke who even dares to look their way while playing a game.

(to those lost again...more sarcasm ;) But seriously, I do strongy believe you can tell a lot from a person by his key arrangements. I'm thinking of putting my mouse to the left of my keyboard & crossing my arms over to see if women fancy me more.

Used to use the arrow keys up until around 2006. Used to play CS:S with arrow keys!

Can't imagine it now. Just decided to switch and see what it was like and after about a week I was fine.

A friend of mine inverts his mouse when playing an FPS. That's a whole other kettle of fish! :o

WASD all the way. Arrow keys or numpad are just strange and inconvenient. I'd have to move the entire keyboard to the left to use those for games :rolleyes:

Used to use arrow keys for Q3, but then switched to WASD and never looked back. What I could never get over was people using the space bar for jump in Q3 as opposed to right mouse button.

I used to use arrow keys about 7 years ago, but been wasd since then.
A sure sign of migrating from arrows to wasd is the use of Caps Lock for jump, Q for walk/run and shift for crouch (from right shift, page down, and right ctrl)! :D

There are no other keys around arrow keys. Moving around with the arrow keys is god awful.
That because your keyboard not normal :p

i use arrow keys for CSS only.

it just makes sense. the only keys i need to you are:

arrows = move/strafe
reload = numpad 1
zoom/silencer = numpad 0
RCtrl = next wep
R Shift = walk
everything else is on the mouse.

i cant press the wrong button or put the silencer on by mistake.

however, things that need a lot more buttons i used the WASD and fast paced games like quake/unreal u NEED the Space bar for jump

Let me ask this question, who sits down at their keyboard and naturally puts their fingers on WASD keys, i noticed i do it all the time, even on other keyboards than my own.

Used arrow keys prior to and when I first started playing Quake, then I discovered the mouse look option and all of a sudden the arrow keys made zero sense to use whilst having a hand on the mouse. So just naturally shifted to WASD from there.

The only messed up habit I have carried with me from the early days is having 'z' as jump (don't ask), this means I can only strafe jump to the right - should probably just go cold turkey on it but my brain has 15 years worth of wiring I would need to tear out :(
