@ FPS Players - The Sniper Rifle

Snipers ruin pretty much every modern FPS game tbh., because they are always unbalanced for the game, cannot be countered and cannot be balanced without making them useless.

During the BF2 days, used to play sniper in clan matches. Loved being able to recon around on your own and defend your team at objectives.

If you get good you don't need to sit off at a distance, you can hold your own at close range alongside the other classes/weapons. But it's also fun having a good camp or harassing from range. :)

actually, I think the only guns I rarely use are shotguns, not got the precision or range I like. But I prefer single shot accuracy for spraying bullets as well, hence why I loved games like COD1, where rifles only had 5 bullets etc it took real skill.

COD 4, sniper and deagle makes a great combo too.

I LOVE sniping. And by 'sniping' I don't mean noscope/quickscope rubbish.

Well whether you play a long range sniper or close quarters QS / NS, there'll always be someone whining. Personally I like to be where the objectives are.

I guess a really good long range sniper can be useful, spotting targets and actually getting more than 1 kill every 5 minutes, but there are lots of useless long range snipers out there, looking after their K/D.

Nowt wrong with a good KDR, depending upon the type of game played. :D

Q/Noscoping just seems like a loophole/exploit to me. I'm a traditional kind of guy and would rather play 'properly' even if that puts me at a disadvantage.

Honestly, now I think about it I'm missing playing MW2 now, intervention and the M14 were great fun.

The Intervention is probably the best sniper rifle of any game, ever. It was just perfect.

99% of people use it now though, so MW2 is basically just a sniper game these days. :p

amigafan2003 some nice BF3 sniping there... :)

Wish i was that good.. always takes me at least 2 shots to get range... guess i need more practice..

Playing Planetside 2 at the moment and the sniping in that feels awful compared to BF3's . It was fine in PS1 but its lost something in 2:(

I used to play a lot of DOD: Source and got so good with the K98 and Garand... especially.. That thing was a total Monster when you learned to use it properly.

Had a phase of Sniping in MW3 but its very frustrating Acog MSR always annoys people running around playing like my DOD days :)

I love the idea of being a sniper in MP games but lack the patience. The last game I sniped a lot in was COD4, but then I found out it is much easier with a G3 with Red Dot sight. On hardcore mode anyway, which I always played...

Fair enough. I like to use the best tools for the job, so I guess one man's loophole is another's smart play ;)

The only time I use a sniper rifle in games is when I want to drop a particularly annoying sniper and flanking him isn't an option.

I come across way too many snipers in mp games that aren't interested in helping their team achieve objectives, they just want to spend the round sat in one spot contributing sod all. Seemed especially annoying in Bad Company 2 matches where half the team will be sitting in bushes and making no effort to move up to the next objective .

I could snipe better than most players on COD4 with my desert eagle.

my main two played classes were:
Desert eagle + shotgun ( Deagle used as a primary, shotgun there for movement speed)
Golden M60 with acog scope + Deagle.

It worked very very well, despite being completely unconventional. What I think I'm trying to say is that FPSs now are very well balenced, it almost doesn't matter what gun you use.

I always preferred the scout over the awp in cs. No game should reward body shots with 1 hit kill.
A guy could go 15-0 with an awp. Give them a scout and they will struggle. Simply because they depend on the 1 hit kill body shots.

The sniping in ArmA 2 is on another level to anything else I've seen. Wind, bullet drop, correlation, scope coordinates, ballistic weight, caliber, terrain type and makeup effecting mavity, shot gauging etc.

Its a whole game within itself!

I agree, it is a very demanding game-play, and yes very true, almost a game within a game.;)

Comparing fast-paced FPS games with a milsim like Arma2 though is a bit pointless ;)

Sniper rifles are an essential asset to any FPS game imo.

Arma series can be as slow or as fast as you like. But I do agree, its a little bit of a long shot listing it in the FPS world.:p

the truth ^^ scout is a mans weapon. 1shot kill if you actually aim.

Much depends on the type of sniper. The frontline twitch sniper is a ninja god, dancing through the opposing team and leaving tiny red mists where heads used to be. The long ranged camping sniper, however, is a gutless weasel who would nearly always be of more value to his team running backwards at the enemy while jumping to try and confuse them.
