Yup, they'd never remake it like the original as it would flop, have got amazing memories of that game. I used to 'cheat' the game when it got too hard by zooming in with the binocular crosshairs on the enemies about 800m away, then switching back to the M16.

The crosshairs for the weapon stayed exactly in the same place as the binocular ones had so I could fire off a single round and snipe people that hand't even rendered

That's pretty neat.

Loved IGI 1&2. The second game could barely run on the computer I had at the time, so after another couple of 'next gen' titles performed as badly (or even worse as I recall), I upgraded.

Insurgency is incredible! And has a top quality WW2 mod "Day of Infamy" released recently well worth checking out.

If you don't mind early access then Squad is good but needs a pretty hefty PC to get the most out of.

Is it MP or SP FPS you want ?

MP - Planetside 2 - very populated, free to play and there is always a massive battle going on.

SP - Alien Isolation - Want atmosphere and dirty pants ? this is an amazing game.

SP - Call of Juarez Gunslinger! - Possibly the most underated shooter out there, the gun play is second to none with a cracking narrative and humorous story line. Buy it !

Half life was good in it's day but doesn't compare to FPS games nowadays for me. Farcry 3 was a very good game. The rest you mentioned I never liked. There are other great FPS games such as Unreal but like I say nothing comes close to BF4.

Have to agree, I still play planetside 2. It's the best alternative to bf1942 I've found.
