Frankly obscene Ring 42.8% subscription increase

I've just had an email from Ring:

Thank you for being a Ring Protect Basic subscriber. We want to let you know about an upcoming change to your subscription.
Starting 11 March 2024, the price of Ring Protect Basic will change from £34.99/year to £49.99/year per device. Learn more about the upcoming price change.

Nothing on the link gives any reason for this obscene 42.8% increase in cost. My subscription renews on the 1st March so it gives me a year to look for a replacement for my Ring, three chimes and a solar panel.
Inflation innit

Just paid for the year in January and wont be renewing it. The fact it was cheap per month was the reason I got it, so I'll be looking for something else.

Aren't they owned by Amazon? With this, the price rise in Prime and then the ads now on Prime video and them wanting extra money to not see those, they're getting mighty greedy.

What's most annoying about this is you could see it coming, yet still like a mug, I got a Ring doorbell! In my defence, at the time when I got it, I genuinely did look at other things on the market and nothing beat Ring as an overall package. I also refused to buy the EUFY ones because of the neglect to customers over a long period of unfixed security issues, which still may not be fixed I don't know as have not checked in a while.

Ring works well and has a very mature app/support etc. I don't personally mind having it all in the cloud and a subscription when it cost less. I think I first paid about £20 when I got it. When it went up to £35 I personally still thought it was worth it but about the limit of my annoyance level to drop it and do something about it, on the basis that a whole new door bell/setup/adapter/installation would be way more than stumping up the extra for a fair few years. I also have spare Ring batteries I rotate so I'm invested in it kind of. Typical really. They've played the perfect game. Make a good product and get the monopoly on it with a sub that means you need it or it nerfs the product. Then gradually increase sub.

I'll probably do my usual to be honest. Carry on being bent over but ensure OCUK hears of it. That will definitely teach them.

Glad I went the logitech route and use it with homekit.

I actually think it’s insane to pay for a sub for a camera and/or doorbell. Having it built into the homekit just makes it flawless between all my (apple) devices. I’d be leaving ring if I was you.

Anyone using the eufy Security Video Doorbell E340 ?

I'm using the Eufy 2K doorbell, which I believe is basically the same as the E340 but it doesn't have the downward facing camera for parcel deliveries (or little people) at your door!

I know Eufy have had various security issues in the past but I have to say I'm impressed with the doorbell and also have a solar powered Eufy camera in the back yard too - nice app and plenty of options!

Why did I get an alert to a thread I've not seen or even replied to?

I jumped ship to Reolink when it increased last time and considering this current hike, I'm glad I did.

I got a notification for this thread too?

Also, I find it funny people comparing unifi to ring. The cost of the unifi hardware is magnitudes more than the ring stuff. If you buy into unifi you’re already pricing in yeeears worth of an equivalent annual rings subscription, even at £50 a year. Especially if you get even one or two of their incredibly expensive cameras

Bought my folks the older 1080p model and there's quite a delay (10-15 secs) between events and notifications, likewise it's slow to access footage remotely (seems to be due to how they proxy the connection to the device) and do two-way comms. Eufy also doesn't support visual triggering for Google Nest/Amazon Echo Show.
I find Ring doorbells vastly better in every way other than it's costly.

was paying £3.49 monthly, have cancelled, got a pro rata refund for the remainder of the month and signed up for 12 months for £34.99 - gives me a year to consider something else.

That price rise is a nonsense.
