freaking amazing gaphics in new mod for HL2

Come on man, the level of polys and texturing in that face easily equals Crysis. I'm not saying the rest looks amazing but that face does, especially considering the engine is four years old. It's pretty undeniable.

Like I said though, I don't like how they've re-imagined Alyx. That level of detail on the proper Alyx would be awesome, the Alyx they've invented looks like the chavs slappers I might see in town on a Friday night.

Agreed, spot on. :)

rippling, how did you get hold of these screens ? Also, do you know when it will be out ?

p.s. Nice husky dogs :D

They messed it up by putting too much light in her face, and also by making her face too perfect which makes it look plastic.

fake factory will soon release there new mod to bring HL2 graphics above and beyond anything seen so far even sweat! on skin check tis alyx model out !

that looks amazing, the detail in the second picture is superb .. hats off to modders ... when is this being release ?

I just wish they would stop concentrating making big boob models of Alyx that look nothing like Alyx. Can't they just give her a newer texture? Another thing I don't like about some of the models is that they look a bit too clean (in case of Alyx she looks like she's going on a catwalk), I mean they are the rebels here living in squalor conditions, I want to see some dirt on their face!

Please explain, as I think Crysis and Crysis Warhead were excellent games.

I don't dislike them, but theres always this lingering feeling that it's graphics above gameplay, story and characters. The games to me just feel a bit... devoid of character? It's hard to describe. Valve seem to give their games that extra something that makes them memorable and above all, more enjoyable. Portal being a great example. The graphics, albeit good, could have been a bit rubbish, but the game would still have been great - the whole spirit of the game, the gameplay itself, the humour.

That for me iss what makes games truly memorable, not super-realistic physics or ultra high resolution textures.

It hasn't been released yet but from what I remember it was the size of textures in the 8 version that made it unstable in 32bit OS so I can't imagine this being any different.

they should make higher res textures, whats the point of having an uber high detail (bad taste) model with the background textures that looks bitty as a chess board.

I agree the hi-res textures are impressive, but if this is possible on the engine, why don't valve implement something like it themselves? Surely they could do a better job than fake factory? They could just have it as a graphics option or something.

Be realistic, why would Valve waste a serious amount of development time going back over an old game to make the graphics 2x better? They did the best they could with the development time and resources available. They didn't need to make the graphics better. Fake Factory haven't had to do anything besides improve the graphics, and they dedicate ALL their time to it... it's their focus. :)

as i've said its a great mod as long as you keep the original models and delete the new music. it basically puts the original half life 2 into the newer orange box engine so has 16xaa support, new lighting/shadow system, ep2 assets etc and he's redone practically every texture. few screens of my playthrough

----PICTURES----

Your shots make it look nice and far closer to the original :)

If the thread had started off with pics like this rather than "OMG jubblies!" pics, I'm sure a lot of people's responses would've been far different...

the first of those three pictures looks great, very atmospheric and nice looking textures, especially on the gun, but the rest look really bad, so unrealistic, yet very crisp still, that with a lot of AA i assume?
