Freaking out!!!

I've had to make an appointment with my GP again, after complaints about heart palpitations he only scheduled a blood pressure 24 hour test and blood tests. I rang 111 on the weekend and the doctor who called back told me my GP should have scheduled a 24 hour ECG. The constant waiting around is the worst thing about it all, 4 days to get in then god knows how long before I am referred to a cardiologist for the further tests. Being relatively young is probably working against me.

GP= General practitioner. Most are ok the issue is some are a jack of all trades and a master of non.

Don't get me wrong I think they have a hard job. But when its peoples LIVES they are playing with.

Although there would soon be a backlash if they sent everyone for tests.

Chest pains, go to A&E, they will shove you on an ECG straight away no matter how old you are. I had a pain across my chest when I was in my early thirties, went straight to A&E and I was rushed through and put in the machine.

Turned out it was back pain, the cardiologist said that was what they thought from the outset but you can never be too careful.

Never had pain, apart from the normal twinges/aches you get for a few seconds. I've had an ECG done a month or so back but if the palpitations don't happen whilst it's monitoring you then it doesn't mean anything unfortunately :(

Have you considered that that "24 hour test" IS the 24 ECG?? And you do realise out of hours doctors via 111 are GPs....

How on earth is a blood pressure 24 hour test an ECG? You do know the difference right?

Of course I know they are GP's that's why I'm saying my own GP appears to be poor at his job if the one on the phone said a 24 hour ECG should have been scheduled.

Good luck today Castiel.

Relax dude, I misread it as "blood pressure , 24 hour test"

Update:

So my ureter was too narrow to fully get the camera into my kidney so they have fitted a stent to widen it and they will do the whole thing again in 3-4 weeks. The consultant said from what he could see it all looks fine though and he's not worried.

However, he also found two red patches on my bladder wall which he has biopsied, again he said he's not too worried, he doesn't think it's cancer but I did see in my notes they want to rule out Carcinoma in situ (he didn't tell me that, I just saw "CIS?" Before I left written down in my notes), he did say something about a virus, but tbh I was still recovering from the GA so wasn't with it.

So back to the drawing board with a few other things to worry about.

He does seem unconcerned though and both nurses who spoke to me before discharge said he is not concerned.

Meh, so you get one thing ruled out and now have to worry about something else. Not ideal but far from worst case. Lets hope the biopsy comes back ok and at least that's a good stepping stone.

I'd take that as good news, personally. Could've been worse :)

But then, I'm an optimist when it comes to this stuff.

Yeah, it does seem to be one thing after another...still no definitive answer on my kidney, although the Consultant (who is the lead urology consultant here) seems quite dismissive that anything is wrong in my kidney, before the procedure he said it's more likely to be a blood vessel sticking out, but if it's a tumour he would simply remove it (he called it something) as its so small (tiny he called it)...obviously he couldn't get up there hence the stent but afterward he seems to even more sure that my kidney is fine (words he used). Again with the red patches when I asked about them being cancerous, he seemed to be unconcerned that they were, he said in rare cases they are a result of a virus which seems to be where his opinion lies...I asked him what he thought in his profession opinion what caused them and that's what he said, he didn't mention CIS to me.

I realise that everything needs to be ruled out, and I've spent the evening reading about the diagnoses and treatment of CIS and it appears to be eminently treatable.

Castiel FFS stop looking up stuff you don't know you've got. I don't know how many times you've been told this but it is not a problem until you have been told it's a problem. At the moment the problem is you diagnosing yourself with Google and causing yourself harm through anxiety and stress which will exacerbate any problems you may have and start a few new ones if you don't.

Just wait and see what the experts who know what they've seen say. You're not an expert and you didn't see what they saw so why the googling! If you want to look in the notes - just ask - so they can be explained in context.

Glad it went ok today but seriously you are doing yourself no favours again.

Don't worry, I'm not diagnosing myself. If I knew what else had the question marks next it it (there was a bunch of stuff) I would have looked up those as well, I wasn't able to read the rest though, I do know a virus was mentioned as he told me that and That the most likely thing is it's inflammation...I'm aware that my earlier cytology was negative and that is considered to be 90% accurate in cases of CIS. (He did another cytology today, all the results will be next week)

I read the notes on my chart just by a glance when the nurse was checking stuff and just wanted to see what's what and that's it, I read a respected information site and I'm relatively calm, worried but not unnecessarily so or about having cancer specifically, more just worried about not knowing, I'm just aware of the possibility I'm not like I was before and convincing myself of stuff...I'm leaning toward the 'positive' side of my thought processes rather than the 'negative'.

I didn't have the opportunity to ask the consultant, and the nurse just said it's one of the things they will investigate to rule out but that the Consultant didn't seem worried and that's when she told me that he was the lead consultant and he generally knows what he's dealing with just by looking and the biopsies usually confirm what he tells the patient and if he was worried about it he would have said so.

So I will take that.

I did ask to read my notes (properly) but apparently they don't allow patients to do that...for obvious reasons I suspect.

I hope the this all goes well for you, Castiel. There's certainly a lot of people here looking out for you. These things can be scary, but no doubt you'll deal with it and take it in your stride...I think that's the best way to deal with this sort of thing anyway

I'm sure that you could get a copy of your own notes, and they do give them out to other places (like insurance companies) if you authorise it.

Good luck Castiel. Shame you're being made to wait an extra 3-4 weeks for definite answers, but at least they DIDN'T find cancer.

Try your best to keep the anxiety at bay. Use this event as mental training/preparation for the future. Remember this won't be the last scare you'll be put thru. Probabilities are that this one will be fine. As we all get older, these kind of illnesses will become common place for most of us.
