There's a small mention in ztorm's (not dixondownloads) FAQ where asked if they will make use of p2p, that is answered with yes, whilst a product is hotly desired, they will make use of p2p. That's it.

Not the end of the world but still.

Incidentally, the duration in which the p2p is active appears to be whilst the minidownloader app you grab first is executing, so for the time it takes to download and end the minidownloader, is how long you'll also be uploading/serving for, then it's over.

As far as I can tell it's not any sneakier than that (no attempt to install background services or the like, though I'm still going to block its arse on the firewall from here on).

Really getting fed up now. On my 4th re-installation of Alpha Protocol trying to get the blasted thing to work :( Ran crapcleaner to clear the registry of all the possible remains from previous installations, hopefully that will help. If not I'll just give up.

Heh, looks like I screwed myself over with this as due to the uploads I exceeded my peak time cap by a couple hundred meg (had calculated I had plenty of room to spare as only took the download into consideration), so now I'm capped at 128kbit for the rest of the billing period. The irony is if I wasn't on an office product (832kbit upload) I probably wouldn't have hit the limit.

Bit annoying because 8pm Friday - 8am Monday is offpeak so my connection is now crippled all weekend despite the fact that it is offpeak.

^i think that's bang out of order by dixons. it really should be made very prominent the fact it's going to cost you upload bandwidth as well.

and do they expect you to be part of their distribution network when you buy games as well? **** that.

I'm sure this Mini downloader thingy is sapping all my memory, it's using about 3GB just to download Alpha Protocol and also using all my upload for some reason.

Yeah I've found the same. I've found that it uses roughly 2.5gb of ram, does anyone know what could be causing this? It's a little bit annoying.

Also my condemned install doesn't work. It won't allow me to change any settings and complains that some .dll is missing. I can't say I'm too fussed mind.

I can't really complain, given that it is free, but I won't buy anything using their service.

Right, I give up. I've downloaded the accursed thing 4 times and I guess I uploaded just as much data in the process, and the game just flat out refuses to start up. No error message, no nothing. Waiting for SEGA to offer some solution to this otherwise I'm done.

If they used a p2p client, it would seem so.

Although Gareth I'm not sure how they would pack the .zit files together or get them extracted.

Not sure if 7zip or WinRAR recognises them. Google time.

Good luck getting them extracted or spliced together again though. It's a split package and you use their custom software to do it.

Minefield on the google front!
