Freelancer!

The storyline, for the most part the actual game in freelancer, was as linear as it gets in game.

Short, sweet and some kind of wonderfull though. You were on a complete traintrack through the game, the desire to play through it was certainly all there. It had a good story, dragged you along with a great narrative, the on the run/peril element made the game incredibily immersive.

Freelancer is a fondly remembered game by most, the short and simple game that had a great hook, kinda like the call of duty of the genre, you were there for the ride.

I LOVED freelancer. The story was as lokiss said, wonderful and immersive, with good characters story and creative missions. Visuals were fairly awesome (at the time) and even now i dont vomit at the visuals like i do for some old games. i suppose space is easy to do. I loved the free roam and ship designs and the whole idea of it was just excellent with the big main systems, liberty britonia kusari rhineland and then the outer corsair systems and stuff. just excellent!

Nothing has ever cured my "modern freelacer" itch :( tried the X series, beautiful huge, clunky controls (imo). freelancer with an updated graphics engine would be awesome :)

maybe freelancer starwards edition. id love to be able to explore all of the starwars galaxy with freelancer style play and stuff. pirates smuglers traders freelancers bounty hunters and such. that would be good!

There was another game around the same time called "Tachyon - The Fringe", I remember playing it but not for more than a few hours but it was quite good.

Tachyon - The Fringe, had the added bonus of being voiced by Bruce Campbell, and his one liners more than made up for things.

Even though I liked Wing Commander I don't think it's as good as Freelancer. Freelancer control system was superb! Descent: Freespace 2 was another absolutely astounding game (well at the time - still worth a play now - head over to gog for it!),

I don't think I've ever completed Freelancer - it's a game I go back to now and again and it has a fairly busy mod community which is always worth a look over.

Ahhh Freelancer.....great game. Liked Starlancer too. I too hope for a remake or a sequel. Just sold Starlancer at the car boot for 50p......

As everybody else has said, what an awesome game. I played the demo and got hooked instantly, can't remember the amount of times i completed it :P

Never did go online though :(

Awesome game as everyone has said. Use to play online with Tekagis Treasure mod.

Infact I am going to go play it now, always seem to be playing it around Christmas time for some reason.

I used to love Freelancer, me and my bro played it for hours/days on end and managed to get the Titan and some pretty awesome weapons.

You can still play it online however i think you need to download something to get on the servers or visit a website and click the links.

Havent played online in awhile however there were a lot of people on it and some RPG servers.
