Freeman of the Land / Bonkers Theories

No, sorry! I was told he's swapped his number plates over to a DVLA one on his Bentley.

I shall take a drive past his house and see...

Was reading that myself a few minutes ago. "Self-conferred legal powers" - Hmm I wonder why this didn't work! :D
I wonder what’s going to happen when they come up against someone willing to defend themselves using reasonable force, for which, if someone bursts into a room with handcuffs and an intent to kidnap you, I’d say could be any level.

I mean, did they plan on using violence or did they expect someone to put handcuffs on willingly? I am bemused.

It depends how many of them there are, and the way they approach the subject.

Three skip lorry drivers taking someone by surprise- problem.

A moany 65 year old who announces his presence- not a problem.

Always worth mentioning that people's reactions to conflict vary. I would be biting pieces off them, but not everyone reacts like that.

Right, but do the 3 skip drivers use force against someone defending themselves before realising “hang on a minute lads, we’ve just killed someone trying to arrest them”, and think they are still in the right? The mental illness levels are off the charts.

Yeah the prospect is quite scary. How far does one go defending against a fake arrest, i.e. kidnap attempt?

Legally as far as you need to protect yourself and stop it.

As there is a realistic fear for your life (you don't know what they'll done once they've got you), it would probably be easy to argue that it is the same as any other case of self defence - whatever is needed to stop the threat and could be considered reasonable at that time by someone in your situation (basically anything up to and including lethal force can be on the table).

Heh, you know how it goes once it's happening. They'd probably tunnel vision on what they were doing.

Agreed those people are morons, by the way.

Imagine raiding a courtroom. It's bonkers stuff.

That's what I was thinking last night. Anyone in this situation could reasonably believe their life was in danger as, once you get kidnapped, who knows what's going to happen to you? Just a horrible situation to potentially end up in because of some very crazy/misguided/ill people thinking they have the legal rights to do this!!

Sounds like they need locking before they actually injure somebody.
I dunno... criminals at least usually know they're breaking the law and choose to risk it/not to respect it.

These morons are I believe a worse class of person and it may be less trouble to just get rid of them.

@drew Curious to know if there has been any developments?

Thought I'd post this related idiocy:
These lot were found guilty.

All four have been found guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court of conspiracy to kidnap and conspiracy to commit false imprisonment.

There was a bloke on Traffic Cops the other night who was stopped and started spouting nonsense like "It's not a car, it's a conveyance" and other such rubbish.
The two Coppers were pee'ing themselves asking where he got all this nonsense from.
I've seen quite a few of these incidents now and they all have their words well rehearsed for when they get stopped.
It always ends with their car getting seized and them getting bands and fines.
There was one though where 7 Cops were involved with the driver spouting Freeman Of The Land stuff and just has the pickup truck arrived his Mum turned up showing he had a drivers license, the car was insured etc.
He then got arrested for wasting their time but sadly got let off.
