Freesat help

28.2E is the best; to change satellite requires you up on a ladder pointing the dish at the precise correct point in the sky.

Check http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html for details of what that position in the sky will offer; look at some of the other satellites offerings on that page to see if they offer channels you'd prefer.

I personal use windows media center. Does the job if you use this remember to reboot yer pc after doing first scan for some reason will give you no signal error. But there are so many players it is hard to say with one are the best.

Below are list the most high rated ones.

MediaPortal -- Very good
ProgDVB -- Pain in rear to setup but supposed to be very good
NextPVR -- formally GB-PVR also very good

Don't forget to scan multiple satellites for more channels (granted pain in rear as this will cause you to get some duplicates) but most software lets you hide/remove channels.

I'm a noob when it comes to freesat but can you use a sky dish with this? With a sky sattelite is there only one of these connectors for the sky box?

a sky dish with what?

there's no such thing as a sky sattelite

what connector are you talking about?

Please rephrase your post into somethign that makes sense., cheers.

When I say sky dish I'm referring to the satellite that sky provide you with for a sky box.

I need to go on my pc to explain the other question as pictures might help.

Yes, you can use the cable which was used for sky.

If you still have sky then you might need a new lnb because the old sky ones only feed one cable.

Freesat and sky use the same satellite so you can use the same lnb for both (if it has two outputs). If you want to watch hotbird then you need an additional lnb but can use the same dish (signal won't be quite as good but should be fine).

Right now that I'm on my pc I can speak English.

I have a satellite dish that sky provide you with for sky. Can I use this for freesat?

Assuming that freesat will work, how will I get it to work on various freesat boxes if I only have one of these which is already connected to my sky box.

See my post above.

If you want to run multiple freesat boxes then I think that you will need an lnb with multiple outputs which I don't think that you will have unless you had sky multiroom.

yes, you don't even need to re-align it

You only need one.

Freesat boxes that have two inputs will probably allow recording and viewing of different channels simultaneously. To do this you will need to change your LNB on your dish to a dual out put LNB and run 2 wires back to your box. The LNB will alo have to be a sky LNB as these are designed differently to accomdate the odd shaped sky dish, compared to a regular non-sky dish.

I did a bit of research on the topic and seen that I will need a quad lnb for my sky box which can be had for £6 on the rainforest. Are the lnbs easy to replace?

Am I right in thinking that if I have sky hd, then two cables should be coming out of my lnb?

I found Satcure very helpful when installing Freesat. They sell a great range of satellite and & TV goodies. There is also a Technical Library which I've found very helpful, index page here; http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/satindex.htm in particular look at no.12.

LNB's are fairly easy to replace if your happy doing the wiring. You need a 'feed' cable to each box/receiver as the box/receiver needs to send a signal to the LNB to operate fully. I fitted a Quattro LNB wired to a multiswitch so I could have Freesat in multiple rooms.

What is the purpose of the multiswitch? Could I not just wire the cable directly from the lnb to my pc?

The multiswitch is used so that you can have satellite feeds in multiple rooms as I mentioned in my post (if you have PVR's etc. which have two tuners you can have two cables so that you can watch one channel while recording another or record two different programs). I was just saying what I had done as an example. Sorry if I confused you.:)

This show hoe a multswitch works; http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/multiswitches.htm

You can wire the cable directly from the LNB to your PC no problems if you only need one feed. A Quad LNB will provide four feeds so you could have two feeds to a PVR or sky box and two to your PC if the card has two tuners.
