Which would have seen them through as the Haas wasn't going to find 0.8, nor the Alfas. Also the Williams in Russell anyway we only have the first sector, the middle and mostly the last sector is where the most time is lost.

It indicates quite a lot of track evolution. It's very possible enough cars would have bettered Leclerc. No point taking a risk.

Watching Karuns comparison between Max and Lewis was interesting. Lewis was fastest in the first sector but Max actually starts to pull away once they reach the first big straight and was maybe two car lengths ahead by the end of it. So Mercedes seem quite conservative with the downforce they are running or it’s the brand new Honda engine that RB threw in for this weekend making the difference.

Will probably still be boring tomorrow as the Merc isn’t a fan of following cars... lol

Didn't Merc say this to Lewis on the radio when he asked about the Redbull, Merc said he's gaining mainly on the straight.

Possibly not Merc running a ton a downforce, more that the RB is more efficient with it's downforce, and hence less drag. That could be down to the high rake concept.

I guess it could also be Max entering that straight faster, Merc not using their electric boost or saving it for elsewhere in the lap. I just thought it was interesting that RB were seemingly faster on the straight.

I think that is incorrect. Lewis was able to follow very close in several races this year behind Max and put pressure on the RB to use its tyres more. Spain is the clearest example where Max pitted unannounced because he had pushed his tyres harder than he would have liked due to Lewis being on his gearbox throughout the first stint.
